Chapter 49 - 1 year later

Clary POV

It was June and the house was full again. The girls had finished college for the summer and Tom had finished school

My maternity leave had ended a few months ago so I was teaching at school again but I only did 3 days a week now instead of 5. I got to spend more time at home and it was one the best decisions I made

Flo was 14 months old now. She could say 'mommy', 'daddy' and a few other words. It was just like it used to be. Tom luckily had warmed up to the prospect of having a sister now. He was getting more used to sharing his toys but sometimes there were still a few problems

"Mommy!" He shouted as I was drying the dishes

"Err, Clary. Help" Maddy shouted right after

I walked into the living room where Tom was trying to pry one of his dinosaurs out of Flo's hands. She had a strong grip though

I snatched the toy out of their hands

"If you can't share then neither of you can have the toy" I stated

They both started crying. This was a usual routine now. Alec walked in and just looked at all of us

"Hide this" I gave him the dinosaur. He nodded and kissed my cheek before going to the bedroom

"Hey Tom want to see something cool in my room?" Maddy said and he stooped crying

"Okay" he sniffles, taking her hand, while I took care of Flo

"Stubborn little girl aren't you?" I lifted up Flo and she stood up by herself "just like your daddy"

"And mommy" I heard Alec's voice say behind me

Alec sat on the floor next to me. We were trying to encourage her to walk by herself more

"Cmon baby girl" Alec held out his hands and she walked a few steps before stumbling into his arms

"Daddy" she put her hands on his face making us both smile

Maddy came back out of her room with Tom. He was holding a nerf gun. This isn't going to end well

"Mommy can we play?" He asked holding the gun up

"Later, its time to eat. Put that away for now"

"Okay" he sighed putting the gun on the sofa. Alec picked up Flo and we went into the kitchen

"Did you make-"

"Yes there's enough for the girls if they come over" I assured Maddy

"What's for dinner?" Tom asked

"Lasagne"

It was like the girls could smell the food. As soon as I said lasagne Jess and Amelia strolled through the door

"Cristina said she's busy tonight" Jess told us

We all ate and watched a film before Alec and I put the kids to bed. We sat back down on the sofa and I knew it was going to be bad when I saw Jess picking the movie

"No horrors" I looked her dead in the eye and she sighed

"You're no fun"

"Well sorry, if I don't want to be haunted by clowns and creepy monsters" I defended

"What about a thriller?" She suggested "they're different"

"They are less scary" Alec pointed out

"Not helping"

"Can't we watch a comedy?" Amelia suggested

They started arguing and we ended up watching queer eye instead
