Chapter 39 - School

Clary POV

Maddy had text me earlier to say she was staying at Liam's while I'd had a stressful evening, and to top it all off I missed Alec's call. I ended up calling him back pretty late and when he answered I knew he had been asleep

"Hey. I called you earlier but you didn't pick up"

"Well sorry I was putting our child to bed by myself, like I have been doing for the past 5 months" I replied sassily

"Wow"

I sighed and lay down in the bed "sorry I'm just tired. It's been a long day"

"No it's me who should be apologising" he replied "I'm the one who put us in this situation"

"Only one more month right?"

"Yep. Just one" he says as a tear slid down my cheek. I quickly wiped it away and took a deep breath, calming myself down

"I wish I could hug you right now"

"I don't even deserve a kiss?" He teased and I laughed lightly

"I don't even need a kiss. Just a hug would do right now" I told him

"Well, if I close my eyes I can imagine hugging you right now red"

"Me too" I closed my eyes and did the same

"Just a few more days we can do that"

"Okay" I whispered

"I know you're tired" he said "I can practically hear you falling asleep right now"

"So are you" I defended, but he was right

He chuckled "go to sleep red. We'll talk tomorrow"

"Okay" I didn't bother to argue. I was exhausted

"Love you Alec" I murmured

"Love you too red" he replied before hanging up the phone. I fell asleep pretty quickly

Alec POV

I told Clary we had another month left but it was actually only 2 weeks. I had been working most days and nights to get everything done so I could go home early

I loved Spain but I missed everyone like crazy, especially Tom, Clary and Maddy. It technically had been less than three months since I saw Clary because she came to Spain for a few days during spring break. But it still felt like ages since I'd seen her. I'd been helping Camila find an affordable apartment in New York as well since the while Natalia incident, so she would be coming back on the plane with me and moving to her new home

When Clary called I was sitting in the living room with a pile of papers on the desk like it was taunting me. I knew I had a lot to do but if I meant I could go home sooner then I'd get it done

"You're going to kill yourself" Ric said coming out of his room topless. He had another lady friend over in his room

"I'll be fine" I said running a hand through my hair "the sooner I finish this, the sooner I go home"
