•Y/N: Your Name
•E/C: Eye ColorAuthor's POV:
Y/N's steps are slow and shaky as she walks across the hall and stops in front of her white, bedroom door. The girl hesitates to place her hand on the knob and, even when she does, she can't find it in her to turn it and face her beloved angel that awaits her return. Her mind is still spinning from the important conversation she had with Catherine, and, honestly, it was all too much to process.
'Laurence wouldn't really hurt me, right? He loves me. He wouldn't...' Even her thoughts are riddled with uncertainty. As much as she wants to believe he wouldn't do anything bad, her sister's words buzz loudly in her head like a persistent fly. Her grip tightens somewhat on the knob as tears threaten to spill from her jewel-like eyes full of the pure and innocent light that Laurence has grown so fond of. All of this is hard on her.
She didn't want to believe a word of it, that her sweet and caring angel could possibly be a danger to anyone— to her— however, there was a sincere worry in Catherine's fear-filled voice that planted a seed of doubt within the depths of the teen's mind. Y/N had to hear it from him. She has to know if he really is fallen. Taking a deep breath to steady herself, she wipes her eyes before opening the door and stepping inside. Sitting on the floor, near her bed, is the grown form of her angel whose wings have spread out over the floor like a soft, feathery rug in order to feel comfortable.
In front of him, the game of Mancala is prepared and ready to play, though, that is the last thing she's worried about. Swiftly, she shuts the door, breaking the heavenly male from his thoughts and bringing his attention to her. A warm, welcoming smile appears on his soft pink lips, but, upon seeing the human's crestfallen look, he stands with a mixture of anger and concern, his expression falling flat.
'What has that wretched girl done now?'
"What happened? Are you all right? What did she tell you?" The winged creature circles his precious girl to check for any sign of injury just in case the sinful woman had decided to lay her hands on her sister. Even he doubted she would, but still. He would take no chances. Thankfully, he sees nothing.
'I should've never left her alone. I knew I had a bad feeling about this! I just knew it!' Laurence stops fussing when his hands are suddenly grabbed by smaller ones and stares into his darling human's E/C eyes. A very faint smile twitches at the corners of her lips as she squeezes his hands in a comforting manner to settle his nerves. He gives a relived sigh, but frowns when her hold slips away and her arms fall back to her sides. The angel walks back to his previous spot before sitting back down and holding his hand out to usher the girl closer. The teen takes slow steps towards him, but makes no attempt to take his hand.
"Tell me what's wrong, Y/N." He doesn't like this. Something is horribly wrong. She has never once looked at him like this, like he's some kind of threat. It made him nervous and even more furious at Catherine, who likely filled the girl's head with nonsense.
"You'll always be honest with me, right?"
"Of course." Leaning forwards, Laurence grasps one of Y/N's hands in a delicate grip before gently tugging her down to sit on his lap. She complies without the slightest hint of resistance, though, hesitation shines clear through her eyes. "Tell me what happened, sweetness, please. Was she saying nasty things to you again?" A spark of gold ignites within his silver orbs, but the flash lasted only a second, and Y/N didn't notice it due to her head being tilted downwards to stare at the unplayed game at their feet, though, she easily picked up on the bitterness of his tone.
"No, she didn't, but..." there was a momentary pause where she bit her bottom lip that dared to quiver. She takes a deep breath before asking, "Laurence, are you a fallen angel?" The nervous girl locks eyes with her beloved friend as his breath catches in his throat.
'How did she- Catherine.' Nearly, he scoffs, but withheld from doing so in front of his human. His shoulders slump and his arms snake around Y/N's waist to hold her close as he leans back against the frame of the bed. "I am."
"Why? What did you do?" His expression goes blank while staring ahead at the wall.
"I was... envious of the guardian angels who get to spend every single day guiding and protecting humans of their very own. I have always wanted to be one, but, allegedly, I was too soft-hearted for the position. You see, guardian angels are not supposed to befriend the one they follow, nor do they even speak to them. They are just there for protection, for guidance. I didn't like that I was stuck in Heaven with only angels as my company. What's so interesting about being around people who are practically identical to one another? Humans, though, they are special— all unique and beautiful in their own way, but at a price. They are so easily corrupted by the very temptation of sin." He raises up a hand and uses it to pet the girl's hair as she processes the information given.
"Everyone knew about my desire, and there is no place in Heaven for a sin so severe. I spent all day longing for the chance to be a guardian angel and would sometimes accidentally neglect my own duties. I was sent down and found you. I just knew we were destined by the lord to meet." An airy laugh escapes his lips in an eerie fashion, causing Y/N to feel strange. There was something off, almost possessive, in his tone, yet it maintained the softness of his voice.
"And, what happens after an angel falls?" This is the bit that worries her most, so, naturally, she grips her hands, which tremble in anxiety. Laurence took notice of this immediately and almost hesitated to answered question.
"Results vary. Some get corrupted, some off themselves, and, sometimes, the really bad ones have to be forced into Hell before they can cause too much damage." Her heart clenched. None of those options sound good, especially those last two. Off himself? Be taken away? How can she possibly handle any of those possibilities?
"And, you?" Her voice broke, causing his eyes to grow wide in realization.
"Oh, sweetness, are you worried about me?" He smiles serenely, noticing her worried look, before assuring her, "Unlike most of the fallen, I have a purpose. I will be perfectly fine so long as I have you by my side, my precious girl." She was almost relieved, but what if something were to happen? What then?
"But, what if-"
"No buts. I can tell you're upset, and I don't like it. You're supposed to stay happy." With a wide, cheery grin, he tugs at the girl's cheeks to force a smile on her lips, causing her to giggle and shove at his hands. The smile remains on her face as he redirects the conversation.
"Now, how about we play the game and forget about all this fallen nonsense?" Nodding her head, Y/N turns her body slightly to wrap her arms around the male's neck and holds him close. She believes in him, and, therefore, will trust his words because he's her angel, he cares about her, and wouldn't ever lie about something like this.
"Okay, Laurence. Let's play."
