Chapter 16: UAR Night

"Sungit, Question and answer portion na!" sabi ni Ian. Ginising niya ako dahil nakatulog pala ako saglit.

"Okay contestant number five, here's your question.."

*boom* *boom* *boom*

"If you are to be chosen as Miss University, what would you contribute for the betterment of our school and why.."

"Thank you for that question.. Good evening everyone.. If I will be chosen to be the Miss University, I will... ahmm.. propose to have another study area beside the library for my fellow students and encourage them to be the best student they can be.. Thank you.."

Everybody clapped, cheered and shouted.

Hindi na ako nakarinig sa question ng partner niyang lalake dahil gusto na talagang matulog ng mga mata ko.

"Gising!" biglang yugyog ni Ian kaya parang na full batt ako instantly nang makitang rumampa si pinsan papunta sa emcee.

"Good evening contestant number six, how are you feeling tonight?"

"I feel a little bit tensed.." she calmy said.

May tensed bang kalmado ang mukha? Ang pinsan ko talagang 'to, artistahin. Kahit kabado na, acting okay parin.

Nakita kong nagtatago si Tristan sa hood niya. Si Trisha naman halos hindi mapakali. Hindi ko alam kung ano ang reaction nina Tita pero I'm sure pareho lang kaming nararamdaman.

"Please pick your question.."

Kumuha si Lara at binigay ito sa emcee. Binalik niya ang kamay niya sa bewang at ngumiti. Napahiyaw naman ang mga tao dahil na focus iyon at nakita sa big screen.

"Here's your question.."

*boom* * boom* *boom*

Ano? Ba't ganyan ang tanong? Diba dapat about sa University?

Nanginginig ang kamay ko kaya I hold Ian's hands.

"Thank you for that nice question.. Good evening UARians!" she said. Pathrilling talaga! Nakakainis!

Kinakabahan ako sa isasagot ni pinsan. I saw Trisha and she already covered her face. Pareho na sila ni Tristan na nagtatago sa hood ng jackets nila.

Naghiyawan ang mga tao at ang lakas ng mga palakpakan.

Maya-maya, napansin kong may tumatawag sa phone ko kaya lumabas muna ako.

"Hello?"

Hello? Dana? Yaya Pipay niyo 'to! Nasa ospital si Bopep ngayon!

"Ha? Ano pong nangyari?"

Naaksidente siya at bumababa na ang platelet count. Hihintayin pa daw ang resulta kung positive din ba siya sa dengue. Sorry Iha, hindi ko kasi matawagan sina Tita Beatrice at Tita Carol mo.

"Naku po! Cge cge po yaya! Pupunta kami diyan as soon as possible!"

Bumalik ako sa loob at kahit malamig, pinapawisan ako.

"Ano na?" tanong ko kay Ian.

"Ba't ang tagal mo?"

"Nasa ospital si Bopep.. Naaksidente!"

"Wait wait! Bakit daw? Calm down!"

"Pupunta tayo as soon as possible doon ha.."

"Sige sige.. okay.."

"Ano na? May award ba si pinsan?" matamlay kong tanong.

"Miss Photogenic, Best in evening gown, at Darling of the crowd.."

"Yun lang?"

"Pare! Ano pa nga yun?" tanong niya sa katabi niya.

"Anong pare? Hindi mo ba nakikita ang foam sa dibdib ko? Gorabels talaga.. Hayy! Yung kay Miss Lara ba kamo? Yun lang.. Alangan namang MISS FRIENDSHIP diba?" malanding sagot ng bakla.

"We only have two spots left.. Come closer ladies and please be here gentlemen.." sabi ng emcee.

Biglang nanlamig na ng kamay ko. Kinabahan ako ng sobra.

"Two will be the first runners up and the other partner will be crowned as Mr. and Ms. University 2014!"

"I have the results in my hand.."

"The names I'm gonna call are the winners for Mr. and Ms. University 2014.."

*boom* *boom* *boom*

"Our Mr. University 2014 is Mr. Amiel Saavedra!.. He is from the College of Nursing.."

"Ms. Lara Eunice Aneracion!"

"She is from the College of Commerce and Accountancy!"

Everybody cheered at tumalon-talon. Happy ako pero parang hindi ko ma tolerate maging happy dahil kinakabahan ako sa sitwasyon ni Bopep ngayon.

"GO LARA!"

"Accountancy! Accountancy! ACCOUNTANCY! YEHEY!"

"Which means, we have our first runners up, Mr. Andrei Gonzales and Ms. Jamie Montereal! Congratulations!"

Ang raming nagpapapicture kay Lara kaya ang sikip sa gilid ng stage. Buti nalang at nauna kami kasama sina Tita Carol kaya wala pang photobomers.

Alam na nina Tita Beatrice na na.ospital si Bopep pero hindi pa nila pinaalam kay Lara. Baka daw magpasyang umuwi o kaya ay ma tense at hindi na maka smile ng maayos.
