Third person's POV

"I swear!" Catherine let out a frustrating sigh.

Esmee was chuckling as she shook her head. "I can't believe she's already doing that..." She then regained her composure. "Perhaps she wants to have sex with Lily herself." Esmee couldn't believe she was saying this. When she first learned about this, she thought it was disgusting, and it still is, but seeing as Catherine experienced something terribly funny... She couldn't help but joke about it.

Catherine glared at Esmee. "It's not funny!" She leaned back in her chair. "Emily's not nearly ready to have sex with Lily yet, she's too young for that and - "

"Ah no," Esmee leaned forward, enjoying this immensely. "She can have sex with Lily up until she's 18," She said to which Catherine slowly nodded. "Your little girl is just an early bloomer."

Catherine buried her face in her hands. "What do I do?"

"Probably tell her about the birds and bees before she gets into it." Esmee couldn't stop but laugh more and more. To her, this was so weird that it was funny.

Catherine looked away, to nothing in particular. She kind of had hoped for Esmee to help her with this, even though she knew Esmee was against it, but she never imagined Esmee simply laughing at her.

Esmee calmed down, after some time, trying to slow down her breathing. "What did Lily say?" She tried.

Catherine shrugged. "Not much," She then looked at Esmee. "She doesn't know why Emily did that."

Esmee then stopped smiling altogether. "Do you really think this is about Emily wanting Lily to herself?"

Catherine looked down.

"She's only 2 years old," Esmee leaned closer, finally noticing the seriousness of the problem. "She's not interested in that yet."

"I know," Catherine looked up. "So it's about keeping Lily safe," She let out a breath. "Emily sees me as a danger to Lily."

Esmee gulped then. "Based on what though?"

"What that piece of crap said to her," Catherine balled her fists again. "I hate that they talked!"

"Could it be," Esmee paused, carefully looking for her next few words. "That Emily senses your condition?"

Catherine raised her eyebrows.

"Perhaps she senses your condition and deems you as dangerous to her human parent," Esmee shrugged. "It could be, couldn't it?"

Catherine looked down, thinking about it. It would make sense as to why Emily was so protective over Lily. "How could she sense it though?" She looked at Esmee. "I couldn't sense it with my father."

Esmee shrugged. "Maybe because you and her have a better relationship?"

Catherine sighed and looked away. She didn't know what to think about Emily's sudden change in behavior. She feared that Emily was indeed sensing something, a danger, that Catherine couldn't feel herself. What if Emily felt the danger get close?

"Hey," Esmee said, pulling Catherine out of her thoughts. "Maybe Emily just missed her mother. As I've said, she's only two years old."

"Maybe..."

Lily's POV

I was seated on the couch in Catherine's parents' house. I was waiting impatiently. I was looking around, to nothing in particular. I just didn't know what to do.

I had left Emily at home, with Marianne. After what had happened last night, I didn't know how to feel about her. I mean, I'm not scared of my daughter. I just don't like the way she acted. It reminded me of... Of Catherine's Vamrin form. I didn't want my little baby girl to change already.

Suddenly the front door opened, and in came Vernon. I had almost forgotten he could enter the house himself.

I stood up. I gulped. "Hello Vernon."

He looked at me, and then his facial expression changed. "What happened?"

I looked down, it's unbelievable how he immediately knew. "Something with Emily," I then looked at him and saw him look at me, he was very attentive. "She acted weirdly last night."

He frowned, though I knew he was simply thinking about what I had just said. "Was Catherine with you?"

I nodded.

Then he nodded. "That makes sense."

I sighed and sat down.

"Don't worry about it," He said as he went to sit down too. "Emily's keeping an eye on you because of Catherine's condition," He said to which I looked at him, he seemed to have an answer to all my questions. "Emily won't do anything, she's just making sure you're alright," He then smiled a bit. "Both of you."

I smiled back. "Thanks."

He nodded.

I looked down then. "I asked you to come by," I looked away, away from him. Even after all this time, I still saw him as someone evil. When, right now, he's really trying to help us. "I need you to talk to Catherine," I then looked at him and noticed him getting worried and insecure. "Please."

He gulped. "I..." He leaned back on the couch, as Catherine would do. "I don't know if she will want to." He then looked at me. "I don't want to get her angry."

"I know," I then looked down, my wedding ring came into view. Remembering the night of our wedding, how Catherine still had so many scars and secrets to carry... I looked at him again. "She needs it, she needs this to live her life."

He nodded, seemingly understanding it. "Ok," He looked around. "Is she here?"

"Not yet," I then took my phone, sending Marianne a text. "She'll be here in a couple of minutes."

He nodded, he seemed nervous then. I wonder if he was nervous to see her again, after all these years, or if he was afraid for what she might do or say. After all, Catherine held the power to end his life. Yet, she never did that...

"How long has it been," I said, gaining his attention. "Since you last saw Catherine?"

He gulped and looked down. He took a while to answer, perhaps he was counting in his head. "13 years," He then shook his head. "What a waste of time..."

I couldn't help but feel bad for him then, and for Catherine. It was indeed a waste of time, time they could've spent together, to talk to each other, to move on.

He looked at me again. "Do you think it's too late?"

"For what?"

He gulped. "To be a father."
