the shape of love

we all feel alone at times;
we all want the love of others.
we all feel it's absence,
but it is all around us.
love will find you in many forms.

love will find you as
the calm drizzle at sunrise.
it takes the shape of
the dawn bird's whistle and the dewy grass.
it takes the shape of
your breakfast each morning.

sometimes you can be with
everyone who you love, who makes you laugh,
but still feel the void around you.
each face hides haunted thoughts
as we all crave the same feeling.

love will find you as
the person who waits for you.
it takes the shape of
the laugh at one of your jokes.
it takes the shape of
the teacher who asks about your day.

we never realize how lonely we are
until the one you love is gone.
no one begins to care until
it is too late for their help,
too late for their love.

love will find you as
a new song you found.
it takes the shape of
the blooming flowers you pass by.
it takes the shape of
your mother fixing you a snack.

once you really are alone,
you'll realize what you took for granted.
you'll realize what you had.
only now can you take a step back
to think.

love will find you as
floating bubbles from cleaning dishes.
it takes the shape of
the theme song of your favorite show.
it takes the shape of
a sweet, peaceful nap.

the loneliness can consume your thoughts.
you can feel it creep around you
as you fall asleep.
you can hear the silence,
the song of no one.

but it is important we know that
love will find us.
it will find us through the little things.
