the night

once the sun
sinks
below the horizon,
the sky sleeps.
the night awakes.

feelings of lust and loneliness emerge.
the chirps echo in moonlight gaze.

we lie awake like the nocturnal:

our thoughts dance slowly, quietly.
some lovely, some fearful.
they bounce in our minds, tormenting our dreams.

we lie awake like the stars:

lightyears away from one another,
connected by constellations,
but lonely in the vastness of space.

we lie awake like the moon:

guiding others mindlessly,
providing light whenever there is darkness
but receiving no help in return.

but then,
the sun will rise.
