We speak of pain,
Of sorrow and agony and loss.
We talk of the hurt,
Of the deep-seated hopelessness,
And how it connects us;
It brings us together in unity.
But sometimes
I think we forget that pain,
That suffering,
Is what left us broken and alone
In the first place.
