Lingering smell of _____.

A perfumed scent wafted about the place.

The stagnant air was saturated with death.

I had to breathe the fetid air, and it made me gag. (Fetid = strong, foul smelling.)

"The room was redolent of garlic." (Redolent = odorous or smelling of something.)

The blood had a metallic-organic smell.

The smell was emanating from the back room.
