The control room was busy. Kai was finishing up the last few things she could on the sensor repairs. Below in the gate room Colonel Everett and Major Sheppard were organizing the marines into teams to hunt down the Wraith who had infultrated the city. Kai half listened to the process as she closed the panel and stood, brushing her hands off on her pants.

"Well that should get you short range sensors at least," she told Chuck. "The components for the long range are fried. I'll have to get approval from McKay to harvest spares from the other control room."

Chuck fired up the systems and nodded gratefully. "Short range are back. Something's better than nothing," he said with a smile. "You should grab some sleep while you can," he advised.

"Yeah," Kai agreed non-committally as she packed up her tools. Below them she could hear Sheppard advising Everett on the best way to divide up the teams searching for the Wraith. There was so much that needed to be done, she didn't feel like she could go to bed while everyone else was up working. McKay and Zelenka didn't need her help at the moment, but hunting and eliminating the Wraith in the city was something she could absolutely help with.

She was standing at the top of the stairs with her tool bag when the doors slid open and Teyla and the Athosians came in. Kai knew Everett had pulled Teyla from active duty when he first arrived, but the Athosian leader had a determined set to her chin. Kai knew her friend well enough to know she was not going to take no for an answer.

"We wish to help," Teyla said as she approached the Everett. Before he could respond she pushed on. "This is quite a large city Colonel, and you could use as many people searching as possible."

Kai strode down the steps towards the group. If Everett accepted Teyla's help, there was a chance he would allow her to join one of the search party's.

Sheppard stepped forward. "She is the one who sensed the Wraith presence in the first place," he pointed out innocently.

Colonel Everett glanced back and forth from Sheppard to Teyla and a smile tugged at his face. "Captain," he called. "Get some weapons for these people."

The captain led the Athosians out of the room towards the armory. Teyla bowed her head respectfully to Everett before joining her people.

Kai came down the stairs behind them. "Colonel," she called. Everett turned and his mouth pressed into a grim line at the sight of her. Undeterred, Kai continued. "I would like to aid in the hunt as well."

"It's not a hunt," Everett commented grimly, all pleasantries lost. "And you and I already talked about how I feel about you having weapons on my base."

Sheppard bristled behind the Colonel. Kai quickly closed the distance to keep Everett's attention on her so he wouldn't notice Sheppard being impertinent over his shoulder. "Then I will join with my Blades and a stunner," she offered. "No live rounds."

Everett was beginning to nod begrudgingly when John stepped forward. "You can't do that. Sending someone out there to go after these guys without a gun might as well be murder."

"Major," she said quickly. "I volunteered." she said, staring into Sheppard's eyes meaningfully.

Instead of backing down John set his chin and glared back at her. He wasn't going to let Everett stick her unarmed with a team she didn't know.
