They didn't understand my mentality, my determination, which confused me because it was almost hinting towards a disregard of their loved ones' wellbeing.

My face had scrunched up in one of disgust at the very thought. My arms wrapped around my torso as a chilled breeze passed by, the cool air was refreshing almost as if it took my doubts away with it.

My ears tuned in on my footsteps along the asphalt in attempt to concentrate on the task at hand. The warm colours of magenta and sapphire illuminated from the neon sign before me and my feet came to a halt.

I had raised my head to a familiar sight, my loathing for the being behind the old wooden door evident as my face hardened at the challenge I would be soon facing but I let out a small breath and straightened my back.

People ask me 'what do you do?' and I say, 'whatever it takes', then I knocked.

***

Useless. I was getting nowhere. I cried out in frustration, tossing my backpack at the wall with force. The bag ricochet off the wall and into the stool beside it, successfully knocking the glass vase onto the wooden floorboards.

I took a deep breath in, in an attempt to calm myself down.

What am I doing?

Letting out a huff, I picked up my bag out of the shards of cracked glass and shook it slightly.

My phone buzzed in my pocket as I walked to the living room. I checked it absentmindedly and saw the name Azia on it, contemplating about the words in the text lasted about three seconds before I threw the phone on the couch. Later, I thought. The glimpse of black ink caught my attention and I withdrew my hand, then brought it to my face.

The small plus sign with arrows pointing in four directions caused a hitch in my throat. It's okay, I'll find her.

I will.

I closed my eyes and clamped my hand in a tight fist, bringing it to my chest. I will.

"We've gone over this Ryan"
He nodded and smiled amusedly, "We have, many times, what makes you think it'll be different now?"

I exhaled sharply, I hate him. His honey brown eyes watched me as I ran a hand through my hair, "Because you haven't told me everything"
His head tilted slightly at my words, the bunch of brown curls bouncing from the moment, "I don't know where your mother is"

You said that last time.

"You were the last one to see her" I retorted.
"Yeah," He replied raising an eyebrow, "That was six months ago, and like I told you and the officials, she and I parted ways after our shifts ended"

He stretched out on the leather couch and looked towards the roof as I closed my eyes and breathed deeply, my patience was wearing thin and talking to this man is not good for my mental health.

"So, you're saying that you didn't see her afterwards? At all?" I questioned, I didn't believe him, I couldn't, not with past circumstances

Ryan and my mother worked at the same business firm, they've hung out together in the past with past colleagues. Him being thirty-one always made me sceptical when he befriended my mother and now that she's missing and he was the last person to be seen with her doesn't help his case.
