Chapter 23 ♔

~ The Next Day ~

Your POV:

I woke up to the pleasant sounds of birds chirping beside my window. Even though it was Autumn, the weather was still relatively warm and cozy. 

I got up from my bed and proceeded to get ready for the day. After washing up, I left my room to go eat some breakfast.

Strangely, I didn't see anyone in the hallway. Usually there'd be a bunch of maids hustling and bustling around early in the morning. But today, I couldn't see or hear anyone.

I walked across the hallway and took a quick peek inside Eomma and Appa's room.

Empty.

Aunt Linda's room looked empty as well..

Strange.

I proceeded downstairs to see if I can find anyone, but no luck. The living room was also free of any maids.

Just then, I heard sobbing sounds coming from the kitchen.

I blinked and cautiously proceeded towards the kitchen. My heart started beating as crazy thoughts filled my mind. 

What if a robber snuck into the mansion and kidnapped everyone except me?! 

If so, why are they crying?! Did they change their mind and regret it??

I took a deep breath and decided to face this kidnapper. I won't let them get away with harming my family!

I busted into the kitchen, prepared to attack but stopped as I saw the sight before me.

It wasn't a robber or kidnapper. It was just Daniel cutting onions..

I sighed in relief and laughed to myself.

Kidnapper or robber in such a highly guarded mansion like this? Really Y/N? What the hell was I thinking..

Daniel looked up and gave me a bright smile, "Good morning jagiya~"

I smiled, "Good morning! But..uhm where is everyone? How come you're the only one home?" 

"Oh that's cause I have a day off today. Eomma and Appa are at work and I told the maids to take the day off as well so they went home."

I tilted my head in confusion, "Huh? Why?"

He smiled and ruffled my hair, "Because I wanted to spend the day alone with you silly! We barely get to spend any time together. Since it was my day off, I wanted to do normal couple stuff with you...like cooking or cleaning. I know it sounds boring so you don't have to if you don't want t-"

I cut him off by placing my finger on his lips, "That actually sounds really fun. Why not?"

His eyes lit up and he handed me some onions, "Great! I was planning on making Kimchi. Just cut these onions up for me, would you?"

I let out a nervous laugh, "U-Uhm Daniel...the thing is....I can't cook." I admitted.

Damn it! Now I regret never learning how to cook. 

What will he think now?! I'm such a failure as a wife..

He smiled and came closer to me, "Well that makes the two of us. I can't cook either," he laughed and pinched my cheek. 

I looked at him in surprise but then sighed in relief.

Thank god. We're on the same boat.

After cutting all the onions and vegetables, we placed them onto the stove to boil.

Not gonna lie, cooking with Daniel was actually really fun. 

I've always hated doing housework when I lived with my parents. They'd always make me do everything instead of Seonho cuz he's a guy and apparently, cooking is a "woman's job".

This was something I was afraid of when I first got arranged with Daniel. Fortunately, his family is nice and doesn't treat me like a housewife at all. I'm so thankful for that. 

I snapped out of my trance as Daniel waved his hand in front of my face, "You alright jagi? You were dazing off.."

I smiled, "Yeah don't worry, I'm fine."

He nodded and kept staring at me. I noticed his eyes flicker down to my lips, "Yah...what is that? Are you okay Y/N?" he asked in concern.

My brows furrowed, "Huh? W-What do you mean?"

He came closer and leaned in to examine my face, "Your lips...they're bruised," he said as he gently brushed his thumb across my lip.

My eyes widened as I realized I still had bruises from what happened at the party with Justin.

Damn it! I thought they would heal by now but I guess not. 

Anyhow, I can't let Daniel find out about what happened.

I let out a nervous laugh, "Oh this? It's just an accident. I probably bit my lip while I was sleeping or something haha."

He tilted his head, "You sure? This looks too bruised just from one bite.."

"Yeah haha, I have sharp teeth after all..I'm like a vampire you know?"

He chuckled and pulled back, "Yeah I guess so. But be careful from now on! I don't like seeing you hurt jagi."

I nodded. 

Phew, that was close.

After the food was ready, Daniel handed me a bowl and took one for himself. We dug in, not expecting much. Surprisingly, the food tasted amazing. Not bad at all for our first time.

"Wow this is the best Kimchi I've ever had! We should really cook together more often!" I smiled.

He nodded and reached out to ruffle my hair, "Agreed! I was so glad to spend this day with you jagi~ Let's do it again sometime!"
