Bethany's POV

I needed to know what was wrong with Cayden. The doctor was explaining to me what happened in the accident. I just wanted to tell him to get on with it but I'm not a mean person. He told me how the driver who hit him was drunk and Cayden must have been crossing the street when the car hit him. The driver of the car hit Cayden then a tree. They believe that he died from hitting the tree.

"Now I am going to tell you the extent of Cayden's injuries. I will tell you and you can ask me any questions you have afterwords. Then I'll let you have some alone time with him. Ready?"

"Y-yes." My voice cracked. I looked at Cayden, he looked so broken, it was like he was never going to be the same ever again.

"The accident caused severe damage to Cayden's body as the car was going so fast. He suffered from a collapsed lung, several broken ribs, his left hand was completely smashed, his right leg broke in two places, and he lost a lot of blood. There is also a possibility that he could be paralyzed, but we won't know until he wakes up, if he even does." He paused looking over his chart for anything that he had missed. I didnt realize that I was crying until I saw a small drop fall to the floor.

"Is that it? I'd like to have some time alone with him now." He looked at me with a hint of pity in his eyes. And shook his head.

"The main extent of his injuries was in his head. His skull was fractured and he has suffered from a very severe case of brain damage. We aren't yet sure how bad it is, he is to unstable to take into surgery at the moment. He is a medical induced coma and we won't wake him up until he is stable enough. Right now it looks like he has a 25% of surviving." He closed the folder that held Cayden's charts and stood in front of me. "Now do you have any questions?" I shook my head. It felt like I couldn't speak, if I did I would throw up or start crying, maybe both. "I'll leave you two then."

Right when the doctor left the room I fell to my knees beside Cayden's bed. "Why? Why him and not me?" I whispered to no one but myself. I curled up into a little ball like I always do when I cry. It always seems to comfort me but this time it wasn't even helping a little. I didn't know how long I stayed there on the floor but it felt like forever. Finally I decided to pull myself together enough to go outside and tell Ryan all the things that were wrong with Cayden.

However when I saw Ryan that didn't happen. Instead I collapsed in his arms at this point not caring about what he did to me I just felt soothed and comforted in his arms. They were so similar to Cayden's that I almost couldn't tell the difference.

I must have fallen asleep in Ryan's arms not long after we sat down. When I woke up I was still on Ryan's lap and sometime during the night we had a blanket put on us. Ryan was still sleeping and the longer I let him slept meant I could hold off on telling him about Cayden for a little longer. So I laid my head back down hoping to get a little more rest.

"We have a code blue! Someone get me a crash cart!!" Ryan and I both bolted up just in time to see a whole swarm of doctors rush into Cayden's room and frantically wheel him off towards the operating room. I looked at Ryan the back at the doors that Cayden went through. That's when my whole world came crashing down.
