Bethany's POV

I got home late that night after wandering through town aimlessly. I had no idea what I was going to do now. I hadn't let single tear fall, although I was very close to doing so. I still had some hope inside me that maybe he got caught up in something. But then he would have texted me saying so.

When I got home I went right up to my room blowing off my mom on the way who was waiting up for me. I stripped down and put my pjs on. I curled up into a ball under my covers and that's when I let the flood gates down.

Sunday I did nothing at all. Just laid in bed like a sack of potatoes. I had no motivation to do anything or even care about anything at the moment. I tried texting Cayden and calling him but never got an answer.

Monday morning came and I had no motivation to go to school. I would be late anyway so I just won't go. I made my way slowly down the stairs and into the kitchen where my mom was reading the news paper. I happened to take a glance at the front page the headline said:

Two teens in local drunk driving incident: one dead, other in critical condition.

I shrugged it off. Car accidents like that often show up in the paper.

"Hey, not feeling well?" mom asked. I nodded my head. My mom knew me so well. If only she knew the real reason why I didn't feel good. "I just read about the accident. It happened near the park on Saturday night a little before eleven."

Hmmm, park? I must have been there when it happened. Why hadn't I heard or seen anything? Oh yeah that's right I was listening to music and thinking about Cayden. I scowled when I thought of him. I hated him and I never wanted to see him again.

Tuesday and Wednesday went by and I still hadn't gone to school. Today was the day that I was ready to go back and face him.

I walked into school and immediately every one's eyes went on me. As I walked down the hallway I could feel them all looking at me.

"Hey Bethany I'm so sorry to hear what happened." some girl came up to me.

"Yeah well it just wasn't meant to be I guess." she looked at me shocked.

"How could you say that?" she held her hand in front of her mouth like any other preppy girl would do.

"He broke my heart. Simple as that."

"You didn't hear it did you?" she pulled me to the side of the hallway so that we weren't in the way of anyone else.

"What my heart breaking? Oh I heard all right." I snapped at her. Who does she think she is talking to me like this.

"No I mean you didn't hear about what happened to Cayden." my heart sank and worry filled inside me. What was wrong with Cayden? What happened to him? Is he okay wherever he is? I shook my head.

"He was hit by a drunk driver." I shook my head

"No, he wasn't. That wasn't him, that was someone else." Tears streamed down my face. I thought my tears had run dry these past couple days but I had been wrong.

"I'm so sorry Bethany." I collapsed to the floor in the middle of the hallway. The last thing I saw was a crowd of concerned people around me.
