Would it be me?"

At times when
I'm not looking at you?"
"Do you struggle to suppress a smile
When I laugh
As well?"
"Do you sometimes regret
Being 'just friends'
Like I do?"
"Do you think about what could have been
Like I do every day?"
"Do you think about how well our hands
Would fit together
Or is it just me?"
"Do you regret lashing out too?"
"Do you take all your words back as well?"
"Have you also typed up a message or an email
But didn't have the courage to send it?"
"Will you think of me
5 years from now?
Because I will probably think of you."
"Will we meet again and finally
Gather enough courage and swallow our pride
And get over it
Or maybe
Give US another chance..."
These are my questions for unnamed muses.
Words that will never leave the page
Nor my lips.
These are texts that I wish I could send.
I'll never know the responses to these questions
And maybe
It's better that way.
My heart won't be brutally shattered
Because of a single string of words
Or one single text.
But there are cracks that are forming
Agonisingly slowly in my heart
Because of the spark of hope
That the answers to some of these questions
Might be
