"Hey...uh...do I know you?"
His words stung.
He didn't remember her, he didn't remember.
But of course he didn't, he would never remember again.
She knew that, had known for a while now.
But still,
It hurt.
"I-I..."
She didn't know what to say, what to tell him.
"You knew me from before don't you,"
he said quietly.
She nodded silently, glancing at his face, and she saw something flash in his eyes. Regret? Pain? Longing? She couldn't tell.
"I'm Hayley" She said, trying to smile, but it was all she could do to choke back the sob that was already rising in her throat.
She wanted him to remember, she wanted him to remember her.
She wanted one last chance, one last chance to tell him.
She would never be able to tell him now.
They had run out of time.
"Hello, uh..."
I never told you...
"Hayley, just Hayley is fine"
That I...
Fingers trembling, she reached out to brush his dark hair out of his eyes, and he shifted a little, surprised.
