By the time they left her, her left eye was swollen shut, but hey, her hand was feeling much better. She proved smart enough to not hit back this time and by the time they left, they looked worse off than she did.

Slenzer had been a wealth of information. The rat whores had just got a huge shipment of new humans. A girl like her who wore a collar. They'd also gotten in five new males.

They couldn't have picked a better time to rally. The enemy was busy celebrating.

"How can you remain so calm?"

"How could I be anything but content at this moment?"

He meant because she was letting him hold her. "Just remember to keep your mind out of the gutter."

"I'm trying desperately."

If she was as calm as him maybe she could be admiring his lean stomach. His chest wasn't too bad either. He knew how to work a loincloth. "Are you sure we can't go to him now?"

"There's no way we would make it. We need to stay right where we are."

"The plan was for me to be with him when the shit hit the fan. What if you're wrong and it's not him?"

"He couldn't talk but I saw his eyes when I whispered, you're name. It was him."

"Are you sure he was okay? Are you sure_____?"

"I couldn't see one thing wrong with him, Karza. I must confess that after seeing him I believe completely that I can steal your affections away from him and have them for myself. When you see him dressed in his fur bottoms, I want you to be honest and admit that I look better."

"Did he look like he's been getting enough to eat? Did he look like he could be sick?"

"He looked well, Karza. I know how important this is to you."

Jess made herself relaxed. She watched his hand run a path up and down her arm.

"Do you think your army will show?"

"Doesn't matter. We can do this." She answered with more bravo than she felt. "Slenzer says her and the boys are shapeshifters. They can turn into anything their own size. That must be cool and helpful. Tamar can camouflage herself. The only bad thing about all of this is we don't know what some of the other aliens are going to be able to do. Nor do we know if they are going to be on our side or not. Some might be ready to save their own selves. Some might be ready to fight anything and everything."

"Good thing my love interest has some superpowers of her own. In all the years my people studied yours we always thought you were like us and had no powers."

She didn't feel like addressing that topic, so she turned onto her side knowing he would follow. "Stay close to me. As soon as I can get you to safety, I will."

"Stay close." He whispered the words in her ear. "You do know what I like to hear. Is this close enough, Karza?"

"G rated, William."

"I'd rather_____."

She smiled at the zap of pain that warned he was crossing a line. She couldn't have planned it better herself.

In less than the time that it would have taken him to count to sixty he was glued to her back again. "That wasn't so bad. I can work with that."

She chuckled. It was hard not to laugh around him. He was definitely growing on her.
