REMEMBRANCES

There are times
I forget my lord,

Those are the times
I regret the most...

I forget the fact that
he is the all planner and knower,

I forget the fact that
he is the protector and the most merciful,

I forget the fact that
my own future was written by him...

And the minute I realise it,
knees drop to the ground,

It breaks inside yet nothing comes out...

Why must it be so hard that I give up asking for anything?

Said a voice somewhere within
my depths,

For Allah tests the people
he loves the most,

So pray my dear and you will be the happiest amongst the most.

My eyes shut close with falling tears,

a mere murmur reaching my ears

as I recited the verses learnt since childhood by heart,

I felt the peace
brimming in my heart,

I knew then he heard me.

For he said, 'Call upon me
and I'll respond you',

'Remember me and
I'll remember you'...

There are times I remember
my lord,

Those are the times
I love the most..

There are times I remember
him the most,

Those are the times
I'll cherish the most..
