Chapter 2

The water filled my lungs, but I couldn't swim. What's holding me? Why can't I move?  Suddenly, I realized it was my seat belt. I couldn't see a thing under the dark sea water, but I felt for it around my waist. It took a few tugs, but I was able to loosen it enough to slip out of the seat. I tried looking around but I could barely even see my own hand in front of me.

The woman next to me was gone. I couldn't feel her where she should have been. I wanted to look for her, to save her from the darkness. But I knew it was no use. She was gone.

I could see a glow of light shining from above me. It was from the hole that was ripped in the plane. I can get out through there. I needed a breath. I needed to breathe, but I could feel myself sinking with every second I wasted. I pushed my body toward the light, praying to God I could make it. I ripped my hands back and forth through the water. Soon, I could see the surface. The black faded to dark blue, which faded to lighter blue. As I kicked my legs with all my might, my lungs began to burn.

I could feel myself tiring out, not able to move as fast. Darkness covered the edges of my vision. I'm dying, I thought. This is the end. Eventually, the darkness took over, and I let myself recede into a peace as I sank to the bottom of the deep ocean. The ripples of light danced on the surface, casting beautiful streamers of light onto my hand. I wasn't in pain anymore. I was just suspended in the peaceful, beautiful unknown.

Until I felt myself being pulled up.

Something tangled around my arm and yanked me to the surface as I blacked out.
