Where I'm From

Where I'm from,
you're supposed to let them break your heart
You are who you're parents are
And you can't tell where you stop and ideas start

Where I'm from,
Word gets around
There's no where to be safe
There's no where you can't be found

Where I'm from,
You're hated for being different
You're not allowed to be not allowed
And you're not allowed to be indifferent

Where I'm from,
Love is something you have to hide
Well, if being in love makes us outlaws,
I guess that makes us Bonnie and Clyde.

Where I'm from,
You're not allowed to be you
You're supposed to be someone they create
You're supposed to walk out the doors brand-new

Where I'm from,
You're not allowed to disagree
You're a brainwashed angel
Never allowed to flee

Where I'm from,
Death is okay
I'll never understand
How they pretend they don't want to stay

Where I'm from,
There's a fine line
Between who you are
And who they assign

Where I'm from,
It's a selfish world
One where you trust everybody
But no one is heard

Where I'm from,
You're expected to play your role
You're given a script, and a blade
And told to pick your goal

Where I'm from,
Even though it leads to death and despair
Loneliness is encouraged
You'll learn pretty quickly that they don't care.

Where I'm from,
It's not okay to be not okay
But being a perfect angel 24/7
Makes you go more and more astray

Where I'm from,
Opinions are highly encouraged,
As long as they're exactly what they want
And exactly as expected.

Where I'm from,
It's hard to leave
There's no escape
And no where to breathe.

Where I'm from,
The broken piano keys are never touched
In an empty room
Full of those who haven't been loved

Where I'm from,
You're born just to fall apart
You are who you're parents weren't
You can't tell where you stop who they want starts
