Beneath

It was cold and dark this night

One where you could see the light

Gifted to us by the stars

That long to be where you are

The clouds now come and conceal the moon

Only to bring forth a monsoon

So heavy the rain and loud the thunder

If only you could see what lie under

My frozen heart left to burn

With each encounter I know you learn

Of my tricks and games of mind

Making myself appear so kind

The rain has faded from the sky

Leaving me to wonder why

I try to love your heart

Only for mine to be ripped apart

I see now that you and me

Together apart always to be

For you drew your dagger from its sheath

And cut away what lies beneath
