A great many things happened after that day.
Did I forget about him?
No. But that’s not my fault.
During that summer, they had broken up.
The rumors quickly reached me through a text message,
even though it was summer.
I went to my friend Michiyo’s house that summer,
and we were walking around her neighborhood.
I had so much fun laughing and talking with her,
that I didn’t notice where the road led.
Michiyo asked,
“Oh, did you hear about that thing?”
“Hmmm. That relationship thing?”
“Mhmm. I feel bad for Fuuka-chan. They said Taiki was all,
‘You’re too fat so I don’t wanna be with you anymore’”
“Haha, did he really say that?”
“Yeah! That’s what I heard!”
Michiyo doesn’t know that I like him,
so it was no surprise that we were talking like this was a distant matter.
But in fact, this was something very close to me.
