Sightless

Saka kami huminto sa harap ng pader.

Wala akong nakikitang opening kaya napatingin ako kay Kaye na takang-taka.

Her eyes quickly turned to gold. Kasabay nito ay ang pagiging semi-transparent ng katawan niya.

She reached inside the wall. And after a few clicks, bumukas ang portion na ito. She pulled out her hand and smiled at me.

Napangiti rin ako at napailing.

She has one cool ability.

Tapos, sinalubong kami ng kadiliman pagpasok namin. No light. No anything. Just plain darkness.

Suddenly, I felt something crawl on my arm. Nalaman ko kaagad kung ano ito kaya kinuyom ko ang aking mga kamao.

Gods. I should've known.

Isa-isang lumiwanag ang mga torches na nakapalibot sa'min. Two goddesses trapped inside a flaming cage came into our sight.

"Silly demigods." Then the mist gathered in front of us and merged to form into one goddess. "You think I cannot sense your presence with my mist scattered everywhere in the Underworld?"

Hindi ako makagalaw dahil sa mist na mahigpit na nakapalipot sa aking braso at paa ko.

Threatened, I felt my eyes change to a different color.

"You should've known this was suicide." humalakhak si Hecate. She began talking about how funny it is to see mortals saving immortals.

"This is how low the gods have become." pagtatapos niya.

Napadako ang aking mga mata kay Demeter. Nakilala ko kaagad siya dahil sa suot niyang veil at green chiton. Gumagalaw rin ang mga floral patterns sa kanyang damit which was enchanting to look at. It really looked like a real garden is sewn on her dress.

Sa tabi niya ay si Pasithea, wearing a white chiton that keeps on glittering even with the lack of light. She leaned closer gracefully and smiled at me.

"Is my husband okay?" tanong niya with a soft voice that echoed through my eardrums repeatedly.

Saka ko naalala.

She's the goddess of meditation and relaxation. Of course her voice would be as gentle as a breeze.

"By now, your husband should be on their way here." Hecate was the one to answer.

"Hinahanap nyo'ko?"

Napalingon kami kina Hypnos at Thanatos. Nakagapos silang dalawa at nasa likod nila ang tatlong mga Arae kasama ang dalawa pang guards.

"You shouldn't have come for us." ani Demeter.

"Guards." tinawag ni Hecate ang mga kampon nila. "Tie these two."

"Ah-" Napaso ang kamay ko nang madikit ito sa tali na nilagyan ata nila ng ibang uri ng lason. "Can you not use that?!"

Sunod-sunod na pumatak ang dugo ko sa sahig nang idiniin ng guwardiya ang pagkakatali nito.

"That freaking hurts!" pilit akong kumawala mula sa kanya. "Hindi kami imortal kaya pwede ba? Use another string!"

"You heard her."

Napatingin kaming lahat kay Thanatos.

"Untie them." utos niya.

Kumunot ang noo ni Hecate. "Death. I see you have chosen a side."

Nagulat ako nang bumagsak ang dalawang guards na humihilik.

Madaling nakawala si Kaye dahil sa ability niyang mag-anyong multo... or something like that at tinulungan niya akong tanggalin mula sa pagkagapos.

The three Arae hissed and spread their wings at the same time. Dumiretso sila sa'min but before they could grab us, lumitaw sa harap namin si Thanatos nang nakatalikod.

I didn't notice how large his wings were at first but both had the length of the whole room.

'Run. We'll meet you outside.' narinig ko ang boses niya.

Gamit ang kanyang pakpak, tinulak niya ang mga Arae kaya hinatak ko na si Kaye at tumakbo papalabas.

Lumiko kami sa dating dinaanan namin kaso napahinto kami nang makita ang dalawang gigantes na naghihintay sa'min. We avoided them and ran as fast as we could. Halatang hinahabol nila kami ayon sa naririnig kong mabibilis at mabibigat na dabog ng mga paa nila mula sa aming likod.

I literally have no idea which part of the castle this is, but we found ourselves on a dead end. Nakatayo kami ngayon at the end of a cliff.

I looked down and expected to see an ocean of lava or a hole filled with damned souls but instead...

I saw a familiar face.

"Cronus." bulong ko.

Nakahiga siya at nakabukas ang kanyang bibig at mga mata. He wasn't moving or anything.

I was confused for a moment.

Napansin ko kasing tinanggalan siya ng mga mata.

All that's left are two black holes...

"They blinded him." I blinked several times.

And it just dawned on me.

So this is how the rebels plan to control him?!

By snatching his sense of sight and vision?!

"Matilda!"

Bumalik ang aking diwa nang tawagin ako ni Kaye. Nasa gitna siya ng isang tulay at sinenyasan ako na sumunod sa kanya.

Without looking down, nagsimula na akong tumawid.

"Bilis!" sigaw ni Kaye. She was already standing on the other side.

Napaluhod ako nang gumalaw ang pinapatungan ko. Nanlalaki ang aking mga mata habang nakatitig sa ibaba. One slip and my body will make a splat on Cronus' chest.

"They're coming!"

Napalunok ako at dali-daling gumapang. I gathered my senses and crawled my way through. I was almost there when one of the gigantes decided to break the bridge made of rock.

"Matilda!"

I tried to reach for Kaye's hand...

but I couldn't.

I was already falling.

Dahan-dahan kong ipinikit ang aking mga mata. Naluluha kasi ako sa matinding pressure na tumatakbo sa balat ko. The pull of gravity is slowly getting stronger dahilan na pati ako ay nabibigatan na rin sa sarili kong katawan.

I was supposed to feel like I'm floating but no, I was getting heavier and heavier.

Binuksan ko lamang ang aking mga mata nang may kamay na mahigpit na humawak sa braso ko.

What the underworld just happened.

Nahuhulog na naman ako sa pangalawang pagkakataon but this time, I actually landed on someone's arms.

Hindi ako makapaniwala nang makita kung sino ang nagligtas sa'kin. "Did Death actually prevented me from dying or did I die already?"

"No time to talk, oracle." tinignan niya ako. "My wings are wounded."

Wounded?

Isn't that something to say when a daughter of Iaso is around?

Kasunod na lumiwanag ang aking balat. I felt healing energy transfer from my skin to his.

"How's that?" tanong ko.

He tensed his back and sighed. "Much better."
