Wandering down the dusky corridor, you could hear his footsteps. You wanted to run, you wanted to get away but your feet were almost stuck to the ground, barely shuffling down the raven carpet. Inside your head, the shrill cries of help were echoing but your mouth wouldn't open. He was getting closer now, you could almost feel him. His skin on yours. His breath on your neck.

"Y/N..." Soft wet touches were rubbing against your cheek, too gentle to be his. Your vision was fading as fast as the sound of his footsteps and you almost startled yourself awake when you felt the sheets stick to your bare skin.

It was a dream.

A re-occurring one that you'd had ever since you were a teenager. However, the only difference was now, your girlfriend or tiny black fluff ball of a dog would wake you before he could hurt you. They were your saviours.

"Hey Batman." You whispered into the darkness, the moonlight shining through the curtains, being the only source of light. "Where's your momma? Huh?" The sheets beside you were cold to the touch, meaning she'd been out of bed a while. Reaching over, you tapped your phone screen and sighed when you saw 2:32am light up. "Come on baby, let's see where she's gone to."

Picking up the mini hero, you moved through your apartment, not bothering with the lights as you knew the layout of this place like the back of your hand. "Dem?"

"In here." You heard a faint call utter back and followed the sound to see your girlfriend, curled up on the sofa, her face lit by some Netflix show on the screen as she held a bowl of ice cream in her fingers. "Hey you. What're you doing up?" Not bothering with a reply, she gave you a knowing look as you let Batman down and collapsed beside her. "Nightmare?"

A small shake of the head was the only confirmation as she sighed. "Why are you out of bed?" You questioned, moving closer to lay your head on her bare shoulder as you slid under the thick blanket.

"Insomnia strikes again. Once you fell asleep, I laid with you for an hour or two then I came out here." No other words were spoken for a good ten minutes. It was almost like a routine for the both of you. Her insomnia took hold of her sleep and dragged it away, while your dreams came to haunt you and took any sense of peacefulness from your grasp. Countless nights you'd spend on the comfort of the living room sofa, cosied up under the thick blanket as you watched the sunrise before you both fell into an exhausted state of sleep for the final few hours until the alarm called.

"What did you eat?" You finally break the silence, noticing the empty bowl in her lap.

"Ice cream and cereal."

"Together?"

"Always." Rolling your eyes, despite the playful smile on your face, you laughed at the memory that played on your mind from only a few weeks ago.

"What're we eating?" Her arms snaked around your waist and her chin rested on your shoulder, barely peeking over your shoulder to see what was on the counter.

"Ice cream." You reply, turning your head to kiss her lips before moving from her grasp and taking a seat at the kitchen island. The oven clock was flashing, alerting you from the corner of your eye that it was nearly 3am as you watched Demi prance around the kitchen in just a oversized shirt, taken from her previous tour as she tried to find something to occupy her.

That was soon taken up by a box of cereal.

"There's milk in the fridge, you know?" You laughed as she simply stuck her fingers in the box and brought out the handful of what might as well have been pure sugar and poured them straight into her mouth.
