53. Duet

Y/N p.o.v

"Y/N this is Joe, Joe Y/N" our director, Nick, introduced us. I reached my hand out to shake his.
"The show is tomorrow, you two need to figure out a duet for the interval, okay, Good" Nick walked off before either of us could answer.
"You think we have enough time" I look to Joe, clear worry on my face.
"If we're fast" He chuckles back nervously.

There's a slight pause.

"Well come on then, let's get practicing" I grab Joe's arm and drag him quickly into the empty practice room down the corridor. I let go of him and rush behind the piano to get set up. I look up to see Joe smirking at me from the doorway,

"What?"

"You did a cute run" he smiles.

I could the heat rise in my cheeks,
"Cute run?".

"Yeah, like this" Joe mimics the run I did to the piano. I can't help but laugh at his behaviour,
"ice breaker?".

"Yeah. Too silly?" I could see Joe's face start to heat up too.

"No not at all" I assure him with a goofy smile. He comes around the piano and sits on the bench next to me.

"So, professional now, what should we sing?" I ask Joe, hovering my fingers over the keys.
"Er... What about Megan Trainer like i'm gonna loose you? If you can play it" he gestures to the keyboard.
"Yeah sure"

We sing the song once through and I am truly blown away by Joe's voice but the song doesn't feel right. I play the last note and turn to Joe, it's clear he is thinking it too.

"I sounded good but there wasn't..."

"That wow factor to it" he finished my sentence,

"Yeah".

"Well what about I can't help falling in love?" I suggest.
"Katie is singing that before us" Joe replies, tapping his foot while thinking.

"Ooo" I exclaim, "do you know the lyrics to that Charlie Puth song" I turn to Joe.

"We don't talk anymore?"
"Yeah that one" I smile,
"Yeah I know most of the lyrics" he smiles back.

I can feel the adrenaline tingle inside me, and the inspiration flow through my fingers. I had a good feeling about this one.

[I took a quick glance to him, I'd never notice how beautifully blue his eyes were as he watched me intently]

I finished the last few notes and sat back to silence,
"Well..." Joe broke the silence, he seemed lost for words.

"I know right" I couldn't help the large grin plastered on my face. I turned my full body towards Joe, it was only now I had realised how close we actually were.

"We did it!" I stretch my arms for a hug which he accepts, thank god.

"You know, we do sound amazing together" Joe mentions over my shoulder.

"Yeah, we do" I nod into the crook of his neck, pulling out of the hug afterwards. I kind of missed it in a strange way.

"Hey we should be partners"

huh.

"What?"

"Like cover duets and stuff" he smiles.

Ooh that's what he meant, duh.

"Yeah we should" I kindly smile back while joe reaches for the notepad and pen that had been left on top of the piano.

"Here" Joe passes me the bit of paper he had just written on.
"My number so we can chat and maybe do some gigs together"
"Only if you want to" he adds, scratching the back of his neck in that cute shy guy way.

"I would love to" I smile back, folding the bit of paper and placing it in my pocket.

"Great, well I'm gonna go get some lunch, would you like come with?" he asks,

"Nah I've got some things I wanna finish up on" I reply, instantly regretting not accepting his offer.

"Well I can bring you back a sandwich?" he asks,

"hhmm, chicken please" I reach to my bag to retrieve my purse,

"No no it's my treat, Alright I'll see you in an hour" I with a sly wink he turned and left.

Wow. Never had I felt more alive when I was singing that Duet with him.
I can't wait to see what the future holds.
