30 | I'm Lost And I Miss The Old Me

Have you ever thought,
About that point,
That sacred moment,
Among the blips of time,
In your short lived life.
The very moment you lost your innocence.

Was it all at once,
Or was it a matter of one too many white lies.
Was it a series of unfortunate events.
Is there a definite moment,
Like that one time you tripped and got a cut so deep,
You scarred.
Or was it a matter of flowers in a vase,
Dying overtime.

I'd like to study a life.
The life of a child.
I want to see for myself,
Looking in from outside eyes.
I want to see the very moment innocence dies.
Watch as it leaves like a fog,
Like an essential part of your soul dying,
Leaving you through your eyes.
Leaving behind that look,
The look.
That tired look.

I want to capture the moments that lead up to it.
And log every action,
Every spoken word,
Every deed.
Because I want to know when it happens,
Why it happens.
How it happens.

And to know if it had ever stayed.
Is there someone who's innocence has stayed?
In a world like this...
In a time like this?
Its okay to hope.

Maybe science can't fix everything.
Nor can it give you all the answers you seek.
Maybe I'll find it among the warm benches,
Of a church pew.
After all,
Christ did tell us to be like a child.
Forgiving,
Kind,
Loving.

When did I stop,
Being all those things.
Was it over time?
Did I fall asleep one night and woke up like I am now?
Old yet young.
Feeling like time goes by too fast.
Had I even noticed I had changed?
Did anyone,
Has anyone ever noticed the very moment a child changes?

Or do we become blind.
Blinded by the years,
Our own tribulations,
Our own world.
That all we can do,
Is see the innocence in a child's eyes
And envy it,
Or long for it,
Or recognize it as something we had,
and lost,
Long ago.
Like an old friend.
That we see in the crowds,
Through the windows of the taxi.
Through the eyes of a child.

I wouldn't like to trouble you anymore,
With my musings,
Of things forgotten.
Lost to time and experience.
Maybe I'll never truly find the answers.
Maybe they too are lost,
And are somewhere,
In the land where innocence and answers hide from us.
Because we are unworthy,
Of pureness,
And the truth.
