"I'm sorry..." he trailed off,and my hopeful expression fell. What happened?

Suddenly,Ross' face broke into a grin. That had me confused, until he exclaimed,"That you have to come to the game!"

I stood there, shocked, trying to process the fact that I had just been fooled, when Ross pulled me into a hug and twirled me about.

When he finally set me back on my feet,I couldn't resist hitting him repeatedly on the chest."I can't believe you fooled me!"

Ross waved a dismissive hand in the air."I had a B,so you have to keep up your end of the deal."

"Of course, you jerk," I grumbled, but Ross just chuckled at my expression.

"Thank you."

I grinned brightly at him,my cheeks heating up for some unknown reason."It wasn't that difficult to teach you,Ross.Your brain is actually working up there, who knew?"He let out a short laugh, and I couldn't help but laugh with him."Besides,I definitely knew you would pass.I am your tutor after all."

Ross smirked in amusement."Someone's gotten cocky."

"I'm not the only one teaching a thing or two," I replied.

The next thing I knew,we were smiling at each other, and in the back of my mind,I couldn't help but think that we seemed in our own little world.

Finally,after what seemed like quite a while,Ross said,"I've got to..go now."

I nodded, feeling a little dazed after what had just happened."Yeah,go ahead.I..also have to h-head to class."

Ross nodded too,but didn't move.I didn't make a move to leave either.

"Thanks again," Ross said. All I could do was nod,and when he turned and walked off,all I could do was watch him go,a small smile on my face.

"You know, looking at him like that, any passer-by might think you have a crush on him."

I focused on Jessica Brown, the Korean girl from my History class, who had a smug look on her face, daring me to deny it.

I forced a smile on my face."Well,I don't.Something he's done is making me happy."

Jessica nodded slowly."If you say so.We have History, let's walk together."

We walked side by side, silence between us.What else could we talk about to each other than the group work?

"I wish I could have helped with the assignment," I finally spoke up.

Jessica glanced at me."Don't sweat it.Besides,I don't know how you would have managed when you were busy tutoring Ross,"she said."That's why you were smiling right? He passed the test?"

"Yeah.I felt tense all week, and it didn't help with the rumours circulating,"I replied, letting out a relieved sigh.Suddenly,I didn't care that I was talking to someone who was practically a stranger to me.It felt nice, and I wondered how I had coped having no one to talk to about anything for that long.

"There's obviously going to be rumours. It would be weird if there weren't.I mean, you slapped Ross Lynch and instantly, you got his attention,"Jessica said."The other girls are just jealous that you get to spend more time with him than they ever will."

I laughed,my body relaxing.I felt at ease with Jessica. She wasn't so bad after all.

"Are you..going to the game?"I found myself asking her.

Jessica scrunched up her face."I've never gone for any. What are they like?"

I let out a short laugh. There was already something we had in common!"I have no idea! This will be my first one."
