- chapter 7 -

I was woken to loud yelling and deep laughs that flouted in from the living space. Their friends must have arrived, at that realization my body filled with dread.
Slowly, I unwrapped myself from the warm bed. Stretching my body till it was rigid before sliding out of bed and quickly changing. I wore a dark pair of high waisted denim shorts with a simple black singlet top with thin spaghetti straps. The day looked as though we would have the strong summer heat but shade from the overcast clouds. Shoving on my old black pair of Dr. Martens. I head for the bathroom to take my wild bed head and clean up for the day. I felt exhausted and deflated, dreading whoever I was about to meet.

It was about five minutes later that I was ridiculously thankful that I had done that as the dining room was filled with three more boys then normal. I couldn't even call the males in the room boys when I think about it, it's clear that they are men now. With broad strong shoulders after summer on the farms and tanned olive skin. They were all too attractive and yet my eyes still lingered on Elijah, until he met my stare. My cheeks flushed as I realized that I had just been standing in the doorway while taking in the scene before me.

Way to introduce yourself Amelia.

"Tommy, you move now. That's Amelia's seat." Mia declared as her eyes furrowed at the blonde haired brown eyed boy beside her. His hair was at a longer length like Ashton but not very long compared to boys at my old school. Elijah had the shortest hair out of them all, in a grown buzz cut kind of way. His hair curling inwards slightly on the right side of his face.

I walked forward as the boy stood and shifted from his spot. I was about to tell him not to bother and that he could have my seat but he must have seen it coming because he shook his head with an amused smile. He waited for me to near holding the back of the chair before gesturing for me to sit. When I finally sank into my seat he lightly pushed me towards the table. It was the first time that anyone had ever pushed my chair in and I couldn't help but go bright red at the strange act. The other boys in the room laughing with Ashton the loudest. Elijah was the only one that didn't laugh, his face formed a scowl as he glared at the boy behind me.

This time Ashton spoke, "stealing my moves Tommy?" His tone cheeky as he gave me a wink. I rolled my eyes before looking up towards Rosa who seemed to be in her own little world as she watched Mia play with the golden syrup on her pancakes. I let my eyes drift just behind Elijah to a boy that reminded me of him, the uninterested look all the time. But there was something more. I analysed his blue eyes and flawless face even his light brown hair but couldn't quite pin it. Not until he bore an icy stare into me did I realise why. They both screamed danger.

The other boy had settled into the other head of the rectangular table between Ashton and Mia. He was quiet and reserved. He watched Mia carefully, helping her with cutting her pancakes into edible pieces. He had black hair and was much paler in skin tone compared to the others. His eyes were a light honey brown.

Ashton caught me staring at the new members of breakfast and took that as his opportunity to introduce them. "This is Matthew, Blake and Thomas." Pointing from the boy at the end of the table to the angry looking one leaning on the wall behind Elijah and then to the boy behind me who I suddenly became painfully aware was leaning on the back of my chair. I leant forward so my chin sat in resting arm on the table to add some distance. Thomas had done nothing wrong, if anything he'd been a gentleman so far. I just didn't know what to make of Elijah and Ashton's friends so far.

"How old are you?" Blake demanded. My head whipped up to him as he spoke to make sure he was speaking to me before I answered. He was so similar to Elijah that it was striking.

"I'm seventeen." My voice sounding pathetic and soft compared to theirs. I wanted to ask them their age considering I didn't even know the age of Elijah or Ashton.

"Last year of school this year?" asked Matthew from the end of the table. He watched curiously as I nodded. "Well, were all together this year then."

It was clear that the boys had told them about me and yet I knew nothing of any of them. Matthew and Ashton stood clearing their plates. My gaze fell to Elijah whose stare pinned me to my seat before rising himself. I watched as they all walked out onto the back porch having already wasted too much of the morning.

It was already hard with two, I don't know how five will work. But I couldn't help but feel as though each of them were very close with each other, a single glance between them could relay a message. None of them spoke but they all knew what each other were thinking. It was something that I'd never experienced before. I envied it. All my life I'd basically only had bad or fake friends, not having the best of judgement.

Only when the fly screen door closed with a bang did I let my racing heart calm down and take a deep breath.
