A minute to think

"How was school, Jace?" He mocked me. I looked at him and frown. He already knows the answer; I don't know why he even asked. He just likes to annoy me.

"Great!" I said bitterly.

"Aw, come on Jace, I know it was not that bad," he smiled. "I don't remember being that miserable in high school." He added quietly, deep in thought.

"Yeah, that's because you didn't know that you were a werewolf when you were in high school... Can you possible imagine what its like for me to know I have this wonderful gift and I can not share it with anyone?" I asked; determine to make him understand me. "Not that I would share it with anybody in school." I added annoyed.

"I was a werewolf remember and why do you say that?" he asked confused looking at me. Right, he was one but still he and Josh were in high school together, it was better for them.

"I don't know, why would I? Nobody would understand and besides I don't trust anyone enough to tell them 'my little secret'," I said.

He looked at me for a moment and stayed quiet, he knew the only person I've ever trusted was Tays but he didn't bring it up. He knew I was still sensitive in that subject. I looked at him and smiled, he this was my way of thanking him for understanding. He smiled back and turned the engine on; I turned the radio on to my favorite station and the next thing I knew we were speeding our way home.

As soon as we passed the last house and there were nothing but forest I felt much better. I rolled down the window to let the air in, I felt like a little puppy sticking my head out the window. I laughed at myself and enjoyed the ride home. I love the way the cold air feels in my face, winter is my favorite season and I specially love the way the forest looks, so beautiful. We drove for a few more minutes and then we arrived home, my happy place. Our house was special, everything about it was beautiful, and this was the place where my parents met. My mother was hiking one day and my dad was outside, he'd just finished "running". This is where everything started. The house looked a lot like a cabin except that it was a two story house; my father added the second floor when Josh was born to make room for the family.

Eri stooped in front of the house and turned the engine off. "You want to go for a run?" he asked me and then grinned at me knowing the answer right away. I smiled and hopped out of the truck. I went inside the house and ran pass the living room and the kitchen heading up stairs to my room.

"Hey Jace," said Josh, he was in the living room watching a soccer game.

"What's up," I said while still running. My mother was in the kitchen cooking. "Going for a run?" she asked.

"Yes." I shouted. I was already in my room. I threw my bag in the bed and went in the restroom for a quick piss stop. I tied my hair in a pony tail and headed back stairs and passed the kitchen.

"Don't be late for dinner," my mother told me. "Ok."

"Aren't you going too, Josh?" I asked confused seeing that he hadn't moved an inch since I've been up stairs.

"Of course, you know I am always up for a little race," he grinned.

"I won't let you win this time," I laughed.

"You mean I won't let you win," he said confident.

We both walked outside to see if Eri was ready but he had phased already. I was about to run when Josh grabbed my sweater and pulled me back. Eri was looking toward the forest deep in concentration. He heard us and looked our way, when he saw me he nodded at Josh, Josh immediately understood and pulled me back inside the house.

"Stay here," he said in a flat tone. I was about to protest when he turned around to look at me and said "I mean it, stay inside Jace, 'till we come back." He then turned and took off closing the door and leaving me standing there looking like an idiot. I walked back to the kitchen where my mother was; she had stooped cooking and was looking outside the window. She heard me come in and looked at me. "What happen to your brothers?" she asked worried.

"I have no idea mom, Josh told me to stay inside the house until he was back," I said annoyed. It's not faired I've being stock inside a building all day I just want to run for a little bit.

My mother finished cooking and we went back to the living room to wait for my brother to come back. An hour passed and they finally walked in through the front door, my mother got up from the couch and went to meet them.

"What happen? Where have you been? Why was Jace not allowed to go?" She asked coherently.

"Wow, mom, its nothing. Slow down, let us in so we can explain," Eri tried to calm her down.

"Mom, please." Josh said. "Ok," she replied and moved aside to let them in. They walked in and sat down, Wow, they stank.

They looked at each other and then Eri began to explain. "When Jace went back inside the house I was waiting for her and Josh to come out but before they came out I caught a weird scent. Something I've never smelled before but I knew it was not good because the minute I smelled it my muscles tightened." he paused for a minute. What? That's happen to me today when that new kid passed by me. It can't be related right? Impossible. He continued, "I decided it was not safe so I phase before Jace and Josh came outside," he nodded. Josh looked at him and continued from where Eri stooped. "That's when I came out side and saw him, I knew something was up when he nodded at me, and we decided to check it out. We ran a long the scent, it stretched out for a few miles but then the scent faded and we didn't catch it again, so we came back," he finished looking at my mother.

"And did any of you come to think that this might be dangerous?" she asked angrily.

"Mom, come on, have a little faith in us, we are wolves for crying out loud. I think we can handle this and besides it's our job to protect the family since dad passed away," Eri smiled.

"Do you have any idea where the scent come from?" my mother asked Josh.

"No but whatever it was, it's gone now," he said.

"Well, let's eat. I'm starving," Eri complained.

That same night I couldn't help to think that, that new kid had something to do with it. After a while of thinking I grabbed my iPod and played my favorite song, after a few seconds I fell fast asleep. Next day I had forgotten all about the whole scent incident and got ready for school. Like every morning Eri dropped me off at school but before I got off the truck he held my hand.

"Sorry about yesterday, I know you were really looking forward to it. But today without a doubt we will race ok, Jace," he smiled.

"I know, Thanks," I said and got off the car.

The day went by a blur and I was anxious to get to fourth period but for some reason I wanted to get to that class not because it was the end of the day but because I knew he was going to be there. I walked in the class and the pull immediately hit me. I looked up to see him already in his seat. He was staring at me but I never met his gaze. I kept walking towards my seat and I still felt his eyes on me. I looked up to demand why he was staring but his expression shocked me, he was looking at me with angry eyes. Like if we were enemies and he wanted to kill. But when our eyes met everything changed, his eyes soften and I couldn't look away, I was over whelm by the beauty of his green eyes. He held my eyes with his, my heart started pounding hard and all I wanted was for him to hold me.
