Magic Pupae

Y/n's pov

Akko put down another Shiny Chariot card sadly. Sucy was reading what seemed to be a spell book and Lotte was just watching Akko be sad

"So it's been ten years since she disappeared" Akko sighed. I nodded "I wonder where Chariot is and what she's doing now" Akko said pulling her knees up to her chest

"She's probably traveling around, showing people all around the world the joy of magic!" I exclaimed and Aero barked in agreement. When I saw Akko wasn't getting happier I sighed and picked at the grass "but honestly, I don't think anybody but she knows" I said with a sigh

"Hey, it must have been hard to collect all these cards" Lotte said trying to cheer Akko up

"When I was a kid, Chariot was so popular. Everybody was collecting cards" Akko said looking up slightly "I just couldn't find one of the premium cards, even though I really wanted it" Akko said almost wistfully. Sucy picked up a card with a mushroom on it

"This mushroom is supposed to reawaken romantic feelings" Sucy said looking bored as ever. Lotte picked up a card next

"This is a unicorn!" Lotte said surprised

"'An eternal holy animal that protects the happiness of young women'" Akko recounted. Lotte looked at Akko confused

"You memorised it?" Lotte asked surprised. Akko smiled lightly

"Of course, I remember everything" Akko chuckled "though I'm not sure about the pronunciation of some of the spells" she admitted

"I know this" Lotte said picking up another card "it's a magical butterfly" she stated looking at the card closely "pappiliodya" Lotte said in awe

"A butterfly that can fly across five continents. It hatches once every 120 years and is said to give hope to the people who see it" Akko said looking up to the sky. I smiled and looked down at Aero

"Y'know. The last sighting of the pappiliodya was around 118 years ago" I said with a grin "maybe we'll see them one day" I said hopefully. Everyone nodded in agreement

Timeskip

I smiled as Akko won against Sucy once again. I looked over at Aero who was sniffing the ground confused. I walked over to him with a raised eyebrow

"What's going on buddy?" I asked getting on one knee next to him. He pawed at the ground and I ran my hand over the grass.

Suddenly the ground broke and a glowing root revealed itself. I heard Akko and the others give a shout in alarm which caused me to look over to them. The direction of the roots seemed to be heading to the greenhouse

"Come on Aero!" I yelled running to find out what was going on. When I got there Diana was surrounded by glowing roots. The tree in the middle was turning a weak grey colour and I gasped in excitement. Was it time already?

Akko, Sucy, and Lotte filed in and a root popped up in front of them making them gasp. Diana swivels around

"Stay back!" She shouted to us. I shook my head. There was no way I was missing this

"Don't worry it's just-" I started

"No stay back!" Diana cut me off. More roots popped up with the pupae on it and I grinned excited

"What are those!?" Akko exclaimed trying to dodge them

"It's pupae!" I shouted with a grin
