Chapter 17 - Inspired

"May boyfriend ka ba o manliligaw?"

Nag-angat ako ng tingin kay Mika. "Mukhang inspired ka kasi." Dagdag niya.

I groaned. Studying would be so much easier if I'm inspired. I'm not inspired I'm determined. I need to win this round.

"Bawal bang bigla ko lang gustong magaral?" Sabi ko.

She laughed at me and shakes her head. "There's no such thing as that. Unless inspired ka nga."

"Hindi ako inspired. Tsaka kanino naman? May pustahan lang kami ni Eris."

"Ohh so inspired ka dahil kay Eris?" Hindi ko nagugustuhan ang tono at ngiti niya.

"Yuck hindi noh!"

"What? Ang sabi ko inspired ka mag-aral kasi may pustahan kayo ni Eris." She feigned innocence and went to her bed.

"Ang alam ko matalino si Eris so good luck. Pero malay mo manalo ang pagiging masipag mo."

Malakas ang pakiramdam ko na inaasar lang ako ni Mika kaya hindi ko na siya pinansin. Matutulog na siya pero ako nag-aaral pa rin.

I should've listened to Eris when he said that I study early because cramming is not a solution. Cramming is not helping me right now. Especially since I'm trying to stay awake.

Ayaw kong pumunta sa study room dahil baka nandoon siya at madistract lang ako. Kaya kahit na nakakatemp ang kama at kanina ko pa gustong humiga pinilit ko ang sarili kong magconcentrate sa papers ko.

Next thing I know I'm sitting at the back of our classroom half asleep.

Note to self: don't cram!

Sabay kaming naglakad ni Eris papunta sa classroom only because nagkasalubong kami sa gate. Kinausap lang niya ako nung nakaupo na kami pareho sa pwesto.

"I had a good night sleep. How about you?"

"Good too." Sabi ko though it's an effort to stay awake right now.

Halata naman sa mata ko na wala akong tulog pero ayaw kong magpatalo sa kanya.

"Pwede mong hiramin ang salamin ko kung gusto mo. You know.." Then he gestured under his eyes.

"Shut up."

He just chuckled. "Good luck."

"Sana bumagsak ka." I retort.

Inusog niya ang upuan niya palapit sa akin at ngumisi. "It's bad to wish that to someone. Hindi mo ba alam na mabilis ang karma?"

"So? Okay lang makarma basta bumagsak ka." Sabi ko. "Sana bumagsak ka."

"We'll see about that."

Then I did the most childish thing I could've done. I stuck out my tongue at him.

Then I heard that throaty laugh of his again! Nagtinginan ang mga malapit sa amin sa kanya.

"Now I see why Jack can't forget about you." He mused.

Napatingin ako kay Jake pero nakatingin lang siya kay Eris.

"You don't know anything so shut up."

"Don't I? He's always following you around like a puppy. I don't need to be smart to know that."

"Shut up." Sinamaan ko siya ng tingin.

Jake is not really the topic that I want to talk about. And if I want to, Eris is the last person I'd go to. Ayaw nga niyang sinasabi ng tama ang pangalan ni Jake tapos sa kanya pa ako lalapit? No way.

"That's the reason why you got yourself so drunk that day right? Gusto niyang makipagbalikan and you don't know if you should." Patuloy niya.

I balled my fist and inhaled deeply. Though I already expected this from him hindi ko pa rin mapigilan ang inis ko.

"And why you kissed me. Though I enjoyed kissing you too. Wanna know what I think?" He said.

I snapped. "Do you always have to be like that? Magkakasakit ka ba kung bumait ka ng isang araw? Can't you be at least not be insensitive? Alam ko wala kang pakialam but please, stop. Fine, I'm stupid and I know it pero wala ka bang ginawa sa buhay mo na katangahan? Tao lang ako. We tend to do things like that. And you don't need to apologize kasi tao ka lang rin. You say stupid things too. So let's just not talk right now. Hmm?"

Surprisingly tumahimik rin siya. He went back to his row and kept quiet. Nakasandal ang ulo niya sa may pader at pumikit.

Nag-aral ako but now I'm just too angry to concentrate on my test.

Nakakainis talaga si Eris! Whatever good things I've said about him binabawi ko na. Nothing's good about him.

"Mor." He started.

"No." I said almost immediately. Ayaw kong ituloy niya pa ang sasabihin niya. I had enough already at quota na ako ngayong araw and considering wala akong tulog so I'm not really in the mood.

Hindi na niya ako ulit kinausap hanggang sa magpasa ng papel.

Halos nakalimutan ko nang may pustahan pala kami sa inis ko.

Apparently our prof is just too lazy to check our papers so he give the papers randomly for us to check.

Pasalamat si Eris at hindi ako ang nakakuha ng papel niya dahil imamali ko lahat 'yun kahit na tama ang sagot niya. I don't care kung magreklamo siya and I'm sure our prof will notice it.

After checking tinawag niya isa isa ang pangalan and whoever's checking the paper of the name called must shout the score.

Oh God!

"Suarez."

"35."

Napatingin ako sa katabi ko. Eris was the one who checked my paper?

"Villanueva."

"38."

Pumikit ako at mouthed a curse word.

Binalik na ang papel sa owners pagkatapos ng announcement. He passed the paper to me and I'm expecting a smirking Eris but he just looked bored and didn't say anything to me.

Tinignan ko ang papel ko at napansin ko na kahit hindi exact words ang nilagay ko ay tinama niya. Pero dahil galit pa rin ako sa kanya ay hindi ko siya pinansin. I didn't even acknowledged it. I didn't ask for it anyway.

At kahit na ginawa niya 'yun ay talo pa rin ako so why bother? The only annoying thing is he always getting higher score than me.

He poked me using his pen. I turned only to glare at him.

"I won."

"I know. Fine let's date or whatever. After class." Sabi ko.

He raised his brows. "Ohh, no, Mor. You don't get to decide when."

"Okay!" I rolled my eyes.

He grinned at me.
