One of the most common weapons in use by the NA is the hydrogen-oxygen burst-cycle rifle, or hydrox-burst rifle. The rifle makes use of separate propellant and projectile resources. The propellant consists of a hydrogen/oxygen slush kept in a cartridge reservoir under extreme pressures. This is fed into the breech assembly and ignited by a high energy plasma charge. Standard ammunition consists of 5 millimeter osmium-tungsten slugs. Due to the nature of the breech, there is a continuous detonation, alternating between sequential chambers. This is let into the main barrel in alternating bursts to maintain pressure and is responsible for the high rate of fire inherent in most hydrox weapons.
