Chapter 20

- The First Three.

"They what?!! " I say nearly screaming at her. I can't stand nothing knowing what happened.

She sniffles then replies.

"After the portal was made only the people who were connected to the Wisp were allowed to enter. So on the eight year anniversary of their children being lost Crystal saw the three sobbing even more than imaginable they could not understand why the Wisp would grant them such beautiful gifts but not give them their children.

So Crystal pledged to the wisp her life and loyalty to protect, accompany and translate the Wisp as long as the three saw their children and it did so. Later on that afternoon Iris appeared.

Her long blonde hair.

Dirty.

Her clothes that were mostly rags.

Torn.

The Three stood in awe especially James Hayes, he ran to her rejoiced; smiling in awe giddy even of her return, but were was William? Serena? And most of all Peter?" She stopped.

I watched Lainey as her mood and demeanor changed from focused to shattered to now stuck in a gaze. She was no longer staring at me like she did before, through the other parts of the story. I mean she was looking at me but this time wasn't giving me eye contact not just telling me this story like a regular history lecture or as if the word that came out of her mouth were just words. This wasn't just an introduction lecture of how my new life began and why.

To Lainey this story meant something to her and by the way she looked when I asked her about what happened to William, Iris, Serena, and Peter it meant a lot.

Then she began again but still looking afar.

Still in her gaze.

Fixated on something.

"Iris could not find the heart to bring herself to the three what had truly happened that horrid day eight years ago. So that night she slept and had not spoken a word to anyone.

Later that night she snuck out of bed to find the Wisp. She spoke to the Wisp that night. There she asked the Wisp that if she told the three what had happened the spirit of the four could live on in the Wisp. The Wisp granted this, but in one days time she would be apart of the Wisp.

The next morning she woke the three up and told them the story saying... 'Eight years ago today William, Serena, Peter and I were playing by the old oak when a man tried to take Will and I. Serena and Peter were only trying to help but it was to late. He kept us all locked up in a cellar below his home for eight years. We never saw his face, he always had a sack over his head and made us call him 'X'. One day Peter and Will tried to escape and he killed them, he left there bodies to rot in the cellar for two weeks to show Serena and I what would happen if we did the same. Then yesterday Serena made a small knife out of old bones and stabbed X in his knee when he brought down our supper, for doing so he slit her throat right in front of me and the blood splattered out of her body. Because I had never hurt him he told me his real name... Xavier..'. " Lainey stopped as a tear rolled down her cheek then she continued.

" 'He never took his mask off but I knew he was an old man by now. He told me he only wanted Will and me because we were twins ,but only took Peter and Serena because they witnessed it all.

He really was sorry,

but I didn't believe him.

He let me sleep in the spare room but before I had the chance to get up and kill the man who caused me so much pain I woke up in our field.' Finally Iris said her goodbyes and disappeared. Then Crystal told the three how their children will live on in the Wisp. They decided who shall be chosen. Who shall rule, who shall make laws, and enforce them and be given the gift. Now Athena this is how you were. CHOSEN." Lainey finally says taking the biggest breath of all and wiping a few stray tears from her cheeks.
