Chp. 5 Kindness is Catching

Start from the beginning

"Since Miss Grace missed the first part of my lecture, she will demonstrate her clearly achieved success at dueling with nonverbal spells. Now." I stood up, taking out my wand and facing Snape. He was so irritating!

"Well? I'm waiting." He sneered. I concentrated hard. I could do this easily! Just not under pressure. Crescerillos! (Combination of words in Latin to grow hair.)

He blocked it easily and I ducked the rebounding curse. Protego! I thought as I felt the tingle up my spine as magic was directed at me. His sneer grew worse.

"No muttering under your breath, Miss Grace. Ten points from Gryffindor." I felt my cheeks tinge pink. I wasn't muttering! Desuageo! Tarantallegra! Rictumsempra! I shouted mentally. He stumbled a bit as the power of my spells hit his shield. I glared at him, begging him to throw something my way. He straightened up and didn't move but I saw the floor start to shudder and transform.

Evanesco! Evanesco! Reducto! Reducio! I chanted frantically, stumbling backwards as dozens of centipedes crawled towards me. I looked incredulously at Snape, who smirked. I hated these things. I had almost died from them when I was little. How did he know?! ...Leglimens... that bastard!

I flinched as they came closer. I closed my eyes and pointed my wand at the crowd of death insects.

"Obtego Neco!" I yelled. Instantly, the bugs were gathered as if by an invisible broom into one small circle and their bodies cracked in half and pulverized with one mighty sound. I dropped my wand to my side and trembled. I could feel them crawling over me all over again.

"Detention for two weeks. I said nonverbal, not yelling Miss Grace." He drawled. I looked at him with hatred.

"I don't think that sending poisonous bugs after a student will go well with the headmaster, professor. Especially if that student has a phobia." I said quietly. The class drew in a breath but I stood my ground. I wasn't going to waste my time here. I hadn't earned this punishment. He's lucky I didn't aim the curse at him. I'm surprised he wasn't down my throat for using it. Maybe because no one else knew what it was?

"We shall see." He whispered dangerously before sending me back to my seat and continuing the lecture. I made my quill take them, my hands too shaky to take legible notes. I tried taking calming breaths but it didn't work.

Finally the bell rang and I stood up on weak legs.

"Here, let me help." I let Seamus wrap his arm around my waist and hold my elbow as he helped me out of the classroom.

"I'm going to be sick." I gasped. He hurried me to the nearest lavatory and I stumbled to the closest stall, emptying my stomach into the bowl. He held back my hair and rubbed my back soothingly.

"What happened in there? I've never seen you act that way with a teacher, darling." He asked. I shook my head, wiping my mouth with my sleeve.

"I have a phobia against centipedes. When I was real little, I had been bitten by several when I was out in the woods by my house. I almost died from the poison. It was horrible." I shivered and threw up again. When it was finally over, he summoned a cup and filled it with water. I eyed it warily.

"It's not going to blow up, is it?" I ask. He chuckled and took a sip.

"There, is it safe now?" he asked. I nodded weakly and took a few sips, feeling the relief it brought to my poor tummy. I pulled out my handkerchief and wet it and washed my face of the clammy-ness.

"Here" He took it from me and pulled back my hair, smoothing it across the back of my neck. I sighed as it took away the slight dizziness.

"Thank you Seamus." I whispered. He chuckled.
