Introducing characters can be the most fun part of writing. It allows you to introduce the world to your babies and your greatest creation. But an introduction needs to be executed correctly otherwise you can bore or confuse your reader.

The first thing to remember is that you don't need to describe every inch of your character the minute they enter the story. Maybe a few details about hair colour, height, any distinct features would help a reader visualise them, but you don't need to list how many freckles a character has! Instead of having a block of text describing the appearance of the character, try and introduce your characters through action.

Maybe they rock up in the middle of a fight sequence, maybe they magically materialise in front of the protagonist. But the more memorable the entrance of the character, the more that character will stick in the reader's mind.

Throughout the story you can reveal more about the character, but you don't need to info dump everything about your character within the first two lines of that character entering the story.
