The building was full of joy and childish giggles. The doctors and the parents walked around the little boys and girls, examining them and then smiling before they walked to the next one and then repeating the same action. Whilst some kids smiled, some clinged into the grown ups' feet, in their own way embracing them in a tight hug.

They examined everyone. Everyone but Newt.

Newt sat at a leather chair, in the corner of the room. In his hands, he held his phone and a comic book that his parents had bought him before the accident. Though even If he seemed occupied, he was anything but that. From the corner of his eyes, he watched the way the adults acted around the children, giving them parts of their love and their attention and that caused some pain to erupt in his chest. For he knew, they would never look at him the way they looked at the youngsters. The adults would never ruffle through his hair, or caress his cheek, nor look at him with loving eyes. Not now, not ever.

They'd never really adopt him.

You could say his misfortune started ever since he stepped into the orphanage, ever since he laid a foot in their front yard. He didn't even manage to unpack his things, nor did they show him his room --- or roommates. He was just dragged in the giant room and told him to put on his greatest smile because It was adoption day”. He did his research though. He asked around, he searched into the front office's and found out about that supposed adoption day.

Adoption day, according to the Saint Mary's orphanage, was the day where all the adults gathered in the great ball room and see whether or not the children in there reached their standards in order to be adopted. Therefore, for the adoption day, every single child that belonged to the orphanage had a chance of being adopted, of having a normal life.

What they forgot to tell him was how bad It would hurt, how much of a problem the pain would be, when he saw how the adults wouldn't even glance at him. They would just walk past him, giving him sympathetic looks and sad smiles. That, hurt him. They forgot to tell him how a limp would form in his throat and how It would keep him from breathing normally. But, he should have expected It.

He wasn't like the rest of the kids.

He would never be.

He waited until everyone attention was turned towards the little babies the lady who ran the orphanage held before his look turned to stone and before they could even realise it, Newt got up to his feet, grabbed his phone and comic and stormed out of the giant ball room and into the big corridor that laid to the children dorms. Newt's look wondered around, taking everything in, and trying to memorise the direction that laid towards the rooms.

“Room 250„ He recalled the words the secretary had told him  from earlier the day, before he was abruptly pulled into this gigantic room of bullshit. Room 250 was his room, and hopefully, the people that he would share his room with, wouldn't be too much of the typical orphanage assholes that picked on anyone that actually crossed their way. Hopefully they won't be 5 year old either, he thought whilst making his way towards his room.

Once he opened the wooden door with the number 250 curved on it, he walked inside the room and kicked the door closed with his right leg. Being wrapped by the darkness black veil, and with the only source of light being the night sky's moonlight, Newt was left to examine the big room.

Its four walls were covered with a grey wallpaper that hugged almost every inch of the naked walls. Every inch but, a black board that was hanging across the 3 beds, on their opposite wall. Written on them, were two names. One of them was Alex, whilst the other one was Caroline. The names were circled with tiny clouds, and happy smiles decorated the chalk board. However, besides the happy smiles, the chalk board also had a grumpy face, and quote such as Everyone you meet has loved something, has lost something, and is afraid of somethinga quote that deeply touched Newt, without him knowing why. Perhaps because was way more deep than he expected it to be.
