SONG: Stay Ready- Jhene Aiko, Kendrick Lamar

Twenty-five hours, one motel, and six cups of caffeinated energy later, and I can finally see the Welcome to Laeville sign that looks to have been touched up since the last time I came here nearly three years ago. This long drive from Glory, California to Laeville, Arkansas has taken a lot out of me and if I don't rest soon, I'll fall asleep at the wheel.

In ten minutes I drift through the main road and take note of the little change the center square seems to have gone through. In true summer fashion, the sunset is hazy and beautiful and my upbeat driving soundtrack (one of the only reasons I'm even awake) is feeding to my positive mood.

You may be asking me, "David, do you really plan on turning this kid out?" Well, my honest answer is no. I refuse to throw myself at this guy like a cheap commercial. Though, depending on how cute he happens to be, I may try to become romantically close. But, I'm not forcing anything.

Eventually, the distance between houses increases, as does the size of the land and homes themselves. When the mansion-like structures get up to twenty or so acres apart, the light blue expanse of my grandfather, Arthur and great-aunt Lily's manor.

The grass is green and full with the lack of workers these days as tending to the strawberries require much less work. The house lights are on adn so are the porch lights which mean they're expecting me.

I steer my truck up the gravel driveway with a crunch crunch and park a few meters away from the other car. I'm guessing the garage is full.

My door pops open and the humid summer air leaks in and I hesitantly step out. The soles of my feet are slightly uncomfortable with the tiny stones digging into my black TOMs. I dig out my large suitcase with my bookbag strapped to the top and give myself a once over. My fitted black shirt with the neon paint splashes go pretty nice with my jeans. I guess I look presenta- what am I saying? I'm seeing my family, not going in for an interview.

Stay cool, Davey, I say as I rap my knuckles on the door. Stay cool.
