The chilly winds blew down the hollow streets. Dark clouds rained down onto the grey cobbled pathway. Children looked out of dark lonely windows onto the once alive streets. Orange glows from the setting sun ignited the sky. Cold droplets of rain danced against my bare arms. White fluffy snow had turned into a giant watery puddle of mud on the main road. Iron gates creaked as they harshly move in the wind. White glows from street lights separated me from darkness. Stars glittered like diamonds. Flames cracked and popped as they engulfed abandoned cars. Water from melting icicles pitter-pattered on the hard stone floor. Whirlwinds of rain blew across the dark scenery. Street lights flickered violently. Windows cracked and doors smashed. Rubble under a scorched building. Set tables in restaurants that will forever remain empty. Broken bodies laid helplessly on cracked roads. Blue flashing lights emerged from around the corner. My heart started racing. My breath became short and rapid. I ran in the opposite direction. Water sent flying as my feet splashed into the puddles. The flashing lights came closer and closer. Sound roared through the deserted streets as the car got closer and closer. My heart pounded as my feet crashed against the ground. They are going to catch me, was all I could think with every step. The forest line was close, I would be safe there, well safer than out here in the open. The shadows created by trees where my friends, they protect me, but they also protect those we are running from. But it's still safer. I need to make it back to her, I promised she wouldn't be alone, I can't leave her out there she would never survive. She can't die like the rest of them, I can't let that happen. The amount of blue lights increased, they are getting closer with every second. I can see the forest, well what is left of it. The blue lights started to get dimmer, I looked behind me, they had changed direction. That was when I saw the others. I needed to get back to my sister, I couldn't worry about the others, not now that I had responsibilities. I carried on running towards the forest. Moans and groans risen from behind me, screams of pain crashed through the forest, as the smell of burnt flesh slipped through my nose. A sickening feeling hit the bottom of my stomach as I knew what was happening. What was left of the broken village would be erased just like the others. They are slowly getting closer to my town, if there is anything left of my town. One single tear dropped down my icy cheek, I couldn't cry, not now. I wiped my face, my hand left a muddy trace on my face. A sharp crack arose from behind me, I slowly turned my head, as I didn't want to alert anyone or anything. Long sharp knife like finger nails attached to a yellow skeleton like body dragged itself across the dead forest floor. I stood still, silent, trying not to move, breathing quiet, sucking in little amounts of oxygen. I erratically moved my eyes looking for somewhere to climb or hid. Brown fingernails dug through the soil, scrapping and clattering on what was laid below. It was heading right towards me, my breath started to become louder and deeper. It lifted its head. Within one swift motion, black eyes darted my direction. I froze. It slowly pushed its hands into the soil and stood on its legs. The yellow figure stood not moving, staring. It's ripped clothes hung from its human like structure. But this wasn't a human. I slowly lifted one foot, it didn't seem to notice, it just stood there silent. I put my foot behind me, and continued moving each foot behind another. It still just stood there, as if it was looking at something. My steps got faster as I moved further away. My foot splashed into a muddy puddle. The sound echoed through the forest and it ran towards me.

My heart raced, as the creature leapt forward, its feet thundered into the ground. I ran. I ran as fast as I could. Dead and fallen trees rushed passed, my lungs started filling with carbon dioxide, breath was getting heavier and difficult. Muscles becoming weak due to lack of oxygen. I couldn't hear it behind me anymore, I couldn't go on I stopped. I took in a deep breath and looked around. The trees were starting to become more thick and alive, greenery painted over the black and brown grey landscape that I left behind. I sat against the tree. Silence covered the trees like an eerie blanket. I sat looking at the landscape. The forest hasn't been touched here. In a few days all of this will be burnt and lost. Smoke rose above the trees and the smell of burning still filled the air. Exhausted, my eyes forced themselves shut and darkness filled my vision.
