Qivi's Point of View

The tension was so thick, I could have sliced it with a knife.

So I did.

"What happened?" I asked, skipping my way back into the living room.

No one answered.

They all shared uncertain glances.

Something was horribly wrong.

I could sense it.

The television had been turned off but as I reached for the remote, Alef took it in his grasp.

So I slouched back into my seat next to Oliver.

It was quiet.

Way too quiet for my own good.

I leaned into my boyfriend's lean but muscular body and pressed my head against his chest.

His heart was beating fast.

Way too fast.

And it increased.

Way too fast.

I felt someone's eyes boring on the back of my head, so I turned to see Batse staring at me.

Blinking fast, as if she was fighting tears.

Way too fast.

My best friend tore her gaze from mine.

And my heart rate began to speed up.

It was beating fast.

Way too fast.

I glanced at Kelyn staring blankly at his hands.

They were shaking fast.

Way too fast.

Surveying Audur, she appeared distressed.

She ran her hand through the strands of her auburn and brown hair fast.

Way too fast.

I examined Neru, bouncing his leg fast.

Up and down.

Way too fast.

Observing Alef, I found that he pulled out his phone and was texting fast.

Way too fast.

I peeked up at Oliver once more to see that he was studying me.

Inspecting my eyes as if it could tell him something.

Tell him anything.

He looked desperate.

And he bent down with his eyes closed and kissed me.

Kissed me passionately with want.

And lust

And love

And fear.

Kissed me fast.

Way too fast.

So I gently pulled away.

And as I peered into his wondrous blue eyes, I realized he was crying.

And so was Alef.

And Neru

And Audur.

And Kelyn.

And Batse.

Because something was wrong.

Terribly wrong.

And I don't know why.

But I cried.

And cried.

And cried.

And cried.

The tears were flowing fast.

Way too fast.
