On Monday, he visited the beach.
Their beach.
He walked to their spot – a secluded collection of large rocks beside the quay – and found to no surprise that she was occupying it.
The place she would sit in his arms and forget everything except him. The rocks she'd stand on and just breath.
He didn't remember the significance of their spot before there was a them, but seeing her in front of him triggered something.
It had been her spot before it became their spot.
Suddenly he felt selfish; he had taken something away from her.
He knew there were days when they fought, and when she felt upset she always needed to be alone. Would this have been her sanctuary during those times, if it wasn't theirs? Perhaps, if things were different, this would have remained her spot.
Why couldn't he realise that sooner?
'Hey,' she smiled.
He returned the gesture, his gaze locked on her. She looked gorgeous in this light, and although he'd seen it a million times, it made him fall in love with her all over again.
Maybe that's why it hurt more when she asked for his name.
'Jungkook,' he offered, masking the sudden weight on his chest. He asked to join her, and with little hesitance, she accepted.
That was one thing he admired about her – how willing she was to give. How she wasn't ever selfish; he was a stranger to her, and yet she was willing to share her space, her sanctuary with him.
He thought – hoped – that she might have shared because he seemed familiar – that maybe she had some memory of him, however faint it might have been. Anything that meant she hadn't entirely forgotten.
But he was wrong.
She simply gave it to him because she was kind.
She gave because it wasn't really hers to hoard.
And for the rest of the week, she did not return to her beach.
