Lucas and Maya had been dating for a long time, and they were officially boyfriend and girlfriend if you asked either of them point blank. But they never really acknowledged it. Maya wasn't a fan of the label game and Lucas thought calling her "girlfriend" made him sound all too much like an early 2000s romcom. So instead, he called her other names. Other nicknames.

Another school year was starting, and Maya was not looking forward to being a junior. She heard it was the hardest year of her high school career, and she didn't want to go tomorrow. She was sitting at the desk in her room sketching when she heard a quiet tap on her window. She turned around in her chair and smiled to herself before glancing at the clock next to her bed. There's only one person who would be here this late the night before their first day of school.
She walked over and lifted the window to let him in. The sight of him stepping through the small window made her laugh and she giggled into her hand.
"Hello darling," Lucas said as he smirked at her and gently shut the window before running a hand through his hair.
"Hey Lucas," Maya whispered back, reaching up to run her own hand through his hair.
"How are you?" he asked her quietly, following her to her bed where he sat and took off his shoes as she clicked off the table lamp that had been illuminating her sketch pad.
"I'm good," she answered truthfully. "Worried about tomorrow, but I'm good," she tells him as they lay on the top of her bed.
"Good," he tells her, pulling her into his side, drawing random patterns on her arm.
"Lucas?" she asks him after a couple of minutes of silence.
"Mhm," he hums back.
"Why did you come here tonight?" she asks, propping herself up on one elbow.
"Oh, I just wanted to see you before tomorrow. My mom knows where I am. I told her I'd be home by midnight," he says checking his phone to look at the time.
"Well, I'm glad you came," she tells him sighing and settling back into him. "How much time do you have left?"
"About 45 minutes," he tells her.
"Good," she responds. "I'm glad you're here."

It was a Monday morning and Maya did not feel good at all. But still, she was trying her darn hardest to be better in school, and she decided to drag herself there. She was currently at her locker with her friends and boyfriend. Her body was leaned up against the wall of lockers and her head was resting on Lucas' shoulder. Her eyes were closed, and she was breathing through her mouth, trying her hardest not to throw up. It was probably just something she ate last night.
"Maya, you really don't look good," Riley told her, resting her hand on the blonde's forearm.
"I'm fine, don't worry about me," Maya waves her off, not opening her eyes.
"Maya, why don't you just go home and get some rest," Farkle suggests.
"I can't, I can't miss class," she says, turning her body into the side of Lucas' at the sound of the first warning bell. She had another five minutes before she actually had to go to class. She takes a deep breath and Lucas wraps his arm completely around her, rubbing up and down on her arm.
"Lucas," Riley says sighing. "Can't you do something?"
"It's not my choice," he sighs out. "I wish you would go home though," he tells the girl who is on the verge of crying.
"I'm fine," she tells him. The three friends sigh again and shake their heads. They continue their conversation until the second warning bell that signaled classes.
"Get better peaches," Riley says as she and Farkle walk off to chemistry.
"Lucas," Maya says quietly as her boyfriend starts to lead her down the hall to her math class.
"Yes Maya?" he asks, turning them around the corner.
"I don't feel good," she says.
"I know baby girl, do you want to go home now?" he says pausing and pushing some of her hair back behind her ear.
"Yes please," she says, her voice barely above a whisper.
"Okay, I have a free period first, I'll take you," he says as he turns her around and directs her out the front door to his car.
"Thank you Lucas," she tells him as he buckles her into the seat, falling asleep before he can even make it to the driver's seat.
"Of course Maya," he says starting the car and grabbing her hand to kiss the back of before pulling out of the parking lot.
