A/N I accidentally wrote half of this chapter in first person and had to change everything so some parts may sound odd sorry...

Alec wiped his blood stained hands on the grass smudging the blades with the taint of death. A few stray tears still clung to his face so he mopped those up too, if he was going to today, he'd die like a man not a snivelling child. The herd were protected by an undulating veil of magic he'd cast reinforced by trees which had sprung up sensing his need to ensure their safety. Olin was gone and Cada was struggling to keep the other chamrosh off his back so it was time for Alec to get up and fight.
His chest ached with grief but his heart had frozen over and only emptiness filled it. The men seemed at a loss about what to do and when he stood they shuffled nervously from foot to foot.
"So?" he said coldly. His voice sounded strangely similar to that of the voice in his head. It had a similar edge to it, soft but dangerous like the hiss of a snake you're about to step on. "So....what?" One of the more pig-headed men asked. He was a huge guy, all hair, muscle and not much else.
"I thought you guys were going to kill me. I'm surprised you haven't already to be honest. I'm getting a little bored." He sighed feeling tired. At this point he almost wished he had never left and just accepted that he had to get married...almost. But he would have never known what it was to actually be happy, never would have met darkness, or the joys of light. He wouldn't have had any friends his own age or discovered his true potential. In short he would have ived in ignorant monotony and misery. At least now he had known joy.
"I'll do it!" His father said gruffly getting down from his horse. If the last man looked big, his father looked enormous. The man was easily seven foot tall and looked like a lion with his mane of red hair.
Putting aside the fearful memories he had, Alec focused on the fight at hand. He knew that his father would fire first and rather literally. The man specialised in elemental magic with fire being his strongest and most notorious weapon of choice. That would mean Alec had one of two choices. He could cast an elemental water spell which would be weak and most likely ineffective since he never practised them much. Or he could just cast an effective protection spell over himself.
"The protection spell." The voice advised. It sounded less threatening than before and almost...excited. Like it was looking forward to witnessing the fight.
"Yeah sure," he muttered trying to remember the exact words for the spell he wanted. It wouldn't work otherwise. He could command nature without spells but this was castor magic and had to be more precise.
"What was that boy!" His father boomed. "Speak up, I want to hear your last words," his lips curling into a twisted grin.
Before Alec had a chance to reply, his father yelled "globi flammarum," and a ball of blue flames shot at him. Alec leaped aside just in time for the ball to sail past him and hit the protective dome which wobbled but held fast. The boys natural grace and speed was going to be useful. He was so light on his feet that it was almost as though he glided instead of walking.
"Ignis resistencia." Alec said softly putting a much needed protection spell over himself. Then he faced his father. "That all you got old man?" He shouted tauntingly his grass green eyes blazing.
"Parietem flammea,"came the angry reply. A wall of flame erupted angrily from the ground and exploded angrily at Alec whose spell luckily held. Again it was his turn and he used a water spell which was as expected weak at best. He cursed his hatred of his father, perhaps if he had paid less attention to his emotions toward the man he would have practised more elemental magic.
His father looked at the smaller wall of flames and grinned maliciously. "Weak little half breed. I should have kept the other one, at least it had fight." Alec had no idea what he meant by that and was not eager to find out.

(A/N the text is gonna go small here I don't know why so ignore it as best you can)
"Reformabit serpens flamma," the auburn haired Goliath roared and at once the wall became a great serpent of orange embers that glowed and hissed disturbingly realistically. Alec tried to control it but it was not really a living beast so he could not. It coiled around him the flames so hot that he new his spell would soon break or he would simply suffocate. He struggled with all his might cursing and yelling racking his brains for anything that would help him. High above Cada screamed as an arrow clipped his wing causing a pang of guilt and anger to rip through Alec. Then the snake reared it's head and opened it's jaws ready to swallow him whole, he grabbed the beasts top and bottom fangs to stop it. The roar of the flames filled his ears blocking out all else while smoke and the scent of burning flesh stung his nose. Above it all though was the laughter. The leering, goading, mocking laughter taunted me making me want to scream, it made my blood boil with rage as well as he heat. "Alexander you have to think now. Really think! Dig deep and find what you're supposed to do. Your instincts will guide you." The voice in his head shrieked in genuine fear. "But I'm just a Leshy what am I going to do? I'll probably just bring some forest animals to give their lives for a worthless cause," he groaned voice cracking from the inferno all around him. He guessed he probably had a minute left. "Just do it." So he did trying his best to filter past the fear of death to reveal the raw anger which filled the rest of his mind. In it he searched for the words to the spell that would save him, without much hope. To his surprise though three word swam up from the red in pure black letters. It was no spell he recognised and he was fairly sure it was not in the old tongue as the other were. Alec cast his eyes over the men who were glaring at him their eyes lit up by the blaze were filled with blood lust. "Fere ad mortem!"

(A/N and it's big again!)
The serpent vanished leaving only blistering burns on Alec's hand behind, he was also fairly sure his hair had been seriously singed. Looking at the men Alec could see they had been affected too each going an ashy grey colour, their eyes suddenly looking very vacant. Each one then fell to the ground a stream of black liquid pouring out of their mouths.
He had killed them. He had said those words and now they were dead. Dead, dead, dead, the words played over an over in Alec's mind. He leaned over and puked emptying the contents of his stomach.
"Check their pulses." The voice whispered in shock. Alec for the second time felt completely numb, he pushed through the mud and rain that had struck up once again over to the bodies. Avoiding his father he chose one at random, then another, then another. Each had a pulse and a normal one at that. They also moved when he drew near, sitting up and bowing their heads. However they held no malice toward him or any emotion at all. They just stared out with those empty eyes that chilled Alec to the bone.
"The almost death," the voice whispered but he ignored it, Cada was his next priority.
