After Fai and Alec had explained the events of that night Phoebe had a mix of emotions on her face. The first as anger, for the simple reason that they should have been more careful. The next was pity for Fern and her maltreatment. The rest were more difficult to read and the boys and Fern sat in anxious silence.
"So you have questions," she sighed finally sounding tired. It was around dawn which meant Phoebe would usually be getting ready for bed as a nocturnal cursed.
"First off, I'd like to know why I feel such a strong err," Alec trailed off trying to find the right word. He felt odd implying he had an instant connection with a young girl but it was true and did seem beyond his control.
"You feel strangely close to Fern," Phoebe said with a slight smirk.
"Yes...why is that?"
"Well leshies love all animals but for whatever reason they've always formed the strongest relationships with wolves and bears. The animals feel the deepest trust and respect towards the leshy, while the leshy feel an  overwhelming urge to nurture and protect the bear/wolf. As a hybrid of the two species Fern will really tug on that instinct."
Phoebe said this with the utmost composure and Alec felt less awkward about the whole affair. Fern too seemed to just accept this fact and was also glad of it, at least now she had someone she could rely on to protect her. Fai though was a little put out by the whole thing. Alexi and him were just beginning what he thought would be a great friendship and he was a little upset that he'd never get a connection with Alexi like Fern would. The Illuceo never had a friend close to his age and he would be overwhelmingly disappointed if he lost the opportunity when things had been going so well.
"Why the sudden surge of power. I used so many new abilities today without getting completely drained." Alec said after a few moments of reflection.
"Now that is a littlte more difficult I'm afraid. Perhaps it's something to do with the conditions you ere under living with the castors. Having to hide your true nature meant you lost some of your strength. Curious but not inexplicable."
"I have a question," Fern piped up suddenly. The little hybrid was sat in a cushiony wicker chair curled up into a fuzzy brown ball. A look of utter comfort and contentedness shone in her soft brown eyes and it made everyone in the room feel a little calmer.
Earth bears do have an ability to spread calm, contented vibes through a room which makes them very good company. They are also kind, considerate and very good listeners, if they weren't so rare everyone would have one as a friend because they were just so likeable. Fern's werewolf side seemed to come out less than her bear which is not uncommon with hybrid's. One side does generally shine through more.
   "Yes dear?"
"Why does his wolf have extra features?"
"A leshy thing again I expect. We all have a true form but for those with shapeshifting abilities it can be a little difficult to find it. Those are probably features of Alec's true form that bled through when he were searching for help or guidance." Phoebe looked like she was sagging a little and Fai decided enough was enough.
"Bed time guys, we all need our rest. I have a feeling that very soon things are going to get interesting," he said with a kind of grim excitement. The word interesting means a different thing to everyone. To Fai it meant difficult but rewarding.
