---Chapter 1---

Jasmine's POV

It was 8th period, so school was almost over. While Mrs. Owens went on and on about how well the class had done this school year, I drifted off into deep thought. I wonder when they'll come. The bell rang, which snapped me back into reality. All the students crowded towards the school exit to head home and enjoy their summer.

"Yes! Summer is finally here!" squealed Elizabeth, my one and only friend.

"Calm down, Liz, you look like you just drank a gallon of coffee," I said, trying hard not to laugh. "Summer's here. Whoopee," I said half-heartily.

"Oh come on! How are you not happy?! This is the day everyone's been waiting for! No more school, homework, P.E.!"

True, I thought. "Yeah, I guess so. I'm totally going to miss running 5 miles a day," I said, rolling my eyes.

"You seem so down in the dumps. How 'bout you come over to my place later to hang out? Let's turn that frown upside down!" exclaimed Liz. She started giggling. "So, what are you going to do over the summer?"

           I thought for a second. "I don't know," I lied.

Liz knew me too well, cause she didn't buy it. She tilted her head. "Whats wrong?"

           Honk honk!

"Oh, my ride's here. Text me! Bye!" said Liz. She gave me one last hug and climbed inside her car. Honk!

I turned around and saw my dad's black convertible. Smiling, I walked over to the car and got inside.

"How you doing, kiddo?" asked Dad.

           "Fine."

"You have a lot of packing today, remember?" said my dad.

"How could I ever forget that," I grumbled.

"Everything will be fine," said Dad and we headed home.

-----------------------Time Laps---------------------------

When we got home, I headed to my room and pulled out a backpack. I started stuffing my clothes into it when I stopped for a moment and thought. Wow. Alot's about to change. I got to tell Liz that I'm going to New York for the whole summer. Totally forgot. I mentally kicked myself. How could she forget to tell her best friend that they wouldn't see each other for the whole summer? Shaking the thought off, Jasmine continued packing. Knock knock. "Come in," I said.

"Hey kiddo, you ready?" asked Dad.

           "Nope," I answered.

"Just promise me that you'll stay safe, okay? I wouldn't be able to live if something happened to you. Call as often as you can, understand?" said Jasmine's father. Jasmine nodded and gave him a hug. I'm gonna miss you, Dad.
