The Basement

Snap. Crack

Here we go once more

A new horror begins

Now behind the basement door

A moan, a howl, a whimper

Such horrible, awful sounds

Something struggles to get free

The door swells with its pounds

Slowly I reach for the knob

A fiery heat meets my hand

Shakily, I open the door

What I see you could never understand

It’s small little creature with

Enormous, bloodshot eyes

No teeth and brown, leathered skin

The thing has seen me- it’s too late to hide

Then it runs

Over to the corner

The stairs creak

As I begin to lower

Spider webs hang from the ceiling

Eerie shadows grow and loom

Where has the thing gone?

My eyes wildly zoom

I’ve found it, hunched over a pile

Of discarded items lost

Lost like memories with time,

It wants me to see old things bought

It points to a small, dark antique book

Eyes are widen as his wrinkled finger lifts

Then something falls from above and hits me on the head

And I awake looking out the window as the snow drifts
