"I'm actually looking for someone," she told him. "His name is Alex."

The man stared at her expectantly. When she didn't say anything else, he frowned.

"His last name, Miss?" The man asked.

"Um..." Amber hesitated.

She knew that she looked like a fool to this man. A child who didn't belong in such an elegant environment. She felt her face heating up. How could she have forgotten to ask for Alex's last name?

"Knightly, we have reservations under Knightly," Alex's velvety voice came from behind Amber.

She turned to see him smiling a crooked grin. She couldn't help but smile too.

The man smiled and looked down at the book podium. He thumbed through.

"Ah, Mr Knightly. You requested a table by the window, I believe?"

Alex nodded. "My apologies for booking so abruptly."

The man shook his head. "It is quite alright. Now, if you and Miss would please follow me."

He led the way through the depths of the restaurant. Alex walked along and Amber began to hobble her way through the gaps of the tables with some difficulty. Alex turned to see her struggling.

"Do you want some help?" He asked.

Amber didn't want to incontinence him but she nodded.

He walked beside her and glanced at her uncertainly, clearly not knowing how to aid her.

Amber knew that the only way he could help was by putting an arm around her waist but she chose not to point it out. He seemed to have figured that out himself. His arm hovered around her waist and he glanced up at her with a small smile playing on his lips.

"Do you mind?" He asked.

Amber shook her head, also smiling now.

He gently snaked an arm around her waist, taking the crutch which she had been using on the side. She pressed her side against him and used her other crutch to steady herself.

It was now much easier to dodge the tables.

The warmth from Alex's body was seeping through his shirt onto her. She had the sudden urge to wrap her arms around him. He also smelt good. He had a woodsy scent along with some sort of citrus... like oranges or something.

The waiter, who had been leading the way, watched them with an eyebrow raised. He led them to a table beside a large window. It had a full view of the restaurant's garden which was filled with hedges sculpted to look like people or animals and a large fountain with a gargoyle of mermaids spewing water out of their mouths. Around the fountain, were tables scattered randomly.

Alex handed Amber her crutch and walked to a seat and pulled the chair out for her. Amber smiled at him and sat down in the chair, quietly thanking him.

"No prob." He replied, taking a seat opposite her.

"I shall leave you to decide," the waiter told them before turning on his heel and walking away.

As the waiter walked away, Alex picked up the menu and Amber followed. For a minute, a silence hung in the air as they looked over the menu.

"You look amazing, by the way," Alex commented, looking at her over his menu.

Amber blushed. "Thanks. You don't look too bad yourself."

She didn't know where all of his bravery was coming from but she was glad that she could talk to him so easily.
