"Chocolate sprinkles for the both of us." Amber said.

"Right, it shouldn't take long at all," Mrs Grunner told them, smiling kindly as she dragged her husband away to the counter.

As soon as they were out of an ear shot, Matty grinned at Amber.

"Come on, then," he began, "are you going to call him or not?"

Amber rolled her eyes at his excitement. She pulled the note out of her pocket along with the paintbrush they had found and her phone.

She slowly tapped the number into the screen of her touch screen phone. Her finger hovered over the call button as she glanced at Matty.

"Wait. What am I going to say to him?" She asked, feeling nervous.

Matty shrugged, though looking highly amused. "How about, 'hi, it's Amber and I'm calling to get my things back'?"

Amber glanced eyed the bright green call button and hesitated. "What if he doesn't recognise me?"

"Just call him, Ambs. I'm sure you'll find the right thing to say," Matty encouraged her.

Amber took a deep breath and lowered her finger. She was just about to click the call button when their ice cream arrived.

She glanced up and Mrs Grunner and grinned. "Thanks."

"No problem, my dear." She replied, before walking away.

Matty rolled his eyes. "Come on then!"

Amber sighed and looked down at the button. She felt sick. She threw the phone to Matty who plucked it out of the air with ease.

"I can't do it!" She exclaimed, crossing her arms over her chest.

Matty released a sigh. "Oh come on, Ambs! You want your things back, don't you?"

Amber stared into his bright blue eyes. "Of course but what if I say something stupid?"

Matty took a spoonful of ice cream. "Fine, don't call him. The only person it's bothering is you."

Amber shrugged as though she wasn't bothered at all. She took a spoonful of her own ice cream. She tried hard to keep the yearning off of her face. After two spoonful's, she dropped the spoon with a clatter her snatched her phone of the table where Matty had left it lie as they ate.

She impulsively slammed her finger down onto the button before gasping sharply.

"Crap!" She pressed the phone against her ear.

She could hear her heart thudding in her chest. She wondered why she felt so nervous over a simple phone call.

The dial tone rang and rang. Amber counted ten rings before she heard his deep, velvety voice.

"Hey, this is Alex. I'm sorry I can't take your call right now but leave a message so I can get back to you."

Amber exhaled a long, steady sigh of relief, followed by a gasp when a loud bleep sounded. She hesitated for a moment, gawking at Matty who seemed to have no idea as to what happening.

"Um... Hi, Alex. This is Amber," she began, improvising as she wracked her brain for something to say. "I got your note from the forest... well, obviously or I wouldn't be calling you right now." She laughed nervously, mentally kicking herself. "I just wanted to arrange a time and place for me to pick up my art supplies," she said, her voice wavering. She sent a scowl to Matty who was snickering at her. "So just... just give me a call on this number and we can arrange something..." She trailed off, feeling the dread settling into her stomach.
