Normani pov

*a couple weeks later*

"are you happy?" my dad asked me.

"for once in my life, i actually am. i never expected to fall for her but i did and i'm happy about it."

"she told me everything."

"i accused her for something she didn't do. in my defense, they kinda looked alike. i just saw her face on Dinah's and it made me mad. so i said harsh things to Dinah and she took the blow. i never expected her to stay with me but she did. i'm actually glad she didn't leave."

"she had a chance to but she didn't want to take it. she had hope in you."

"thank god for her. you'll be getting your grandkids soon. i don't know how much Dinah wants but as long as she's the father, i'm okay with it."

"she's a great addition to the family. i'm sure your mom would be proud."

"if she was even here." i said, scoffing.

"Mani, she's still your mother."

"no, she abandoned me."

"she didn't have a choice and you know that."

"how could you still love him?"

"that's my father. i always obeyed him because if i was disobedient, i got hurt. i didn't have a mom to tell him to go easy on me. i put you through shit that you didn't deserve."

"dad, you weren't like him. all you did was make me do this arranged marriage."

"that's worse than anything because you didn't know the person you forced me to wed."

"actually i knew her dad. he was one of your mom's client before she had to leave."

"i don't know why you still obey grandpa."

"well i can't do anything about it. he still controls my life and the fact that you were going to marry a girl didn't sit well with him. he made a deal with me saying that if a few months pass by and you don't have feelings for Dinah, he was going to arrange a guy he knew to be your husband."

"you told me Sinu said that."

"i didn't want you to be mad at me so i tweaked the truth. i'm sorry sweetheart."

"it's okay, dad."

"i just want you to focus on being happy. that's all i want for you. i'm not letting your grandfather ruin your chance at true happiness with the girl you love."

"you shouldn't as well. go find mom."

"remember that you and Mila will always be sisters."

"of course, she's your daughter as well."

"i'm going to go now. i have things to do."

he gets up and kissed my head. i watched as he left the diner before i saw Dinah walk in. i smiled as she sat in front of me.

"what's up with your dad?"

"he's about to go find the one he loves."

"he doesn't love Sinu?"

"he does but not the way you think. they both agreed that they would find the ones they loved when my grandfather dies."

"isn't he still alive?"

"yeah, he is." i said, chuckling softly before giving Dinah a kiss.

"as long as he doesn't ruin my chance on getting to marry his beautiful granddaughter."
