"Excuse me?" she asked after a long pause.

"I said that I don't want you to block Lex Luthor's import license," you repeated. You curled your fingers up into fists. She was silent for a few more agonizing seconds.

"I don't see how it would affect you if I did," she said. "Besides saving everyone from a very dangerous man."

"Mom," you said. This was exactly the response you knew you'd get and the one you didn't want. "Just---"

"Do you know what his plans are?" she interrupted.

"No."

"Okay. Well, let me explain it in a way that won't get me killed," she said. "___, Lex Luthor is not the man he presents himself to be. He is not a friend, a boyfriend, whatever he is to you. He is after one thing and one thing only. Power."

"I don't understand," you answered.

"He is saying that he fears Metahumans... such as General Zod. And that he is... protecting us from aliens like him in the future."

"Maybe he is," you said. "Maybe Lex is the only one that can see how much danger we're truly in. If Superman and General Zod and Supergirl can all land on earth... who's to say there aren't more? And Superman is currently both half a hero and half a villain in nearly everyones' eyes. Maybe we do need more protection."
