~*~*~Charles' POV~*~*~

The nurse walks towards me with a despaired look. I dread the news I know she is about to give me. "Please...No..." I beg her.

"You know that I cannot do a thing, sir. I am sorry." She walks away.

It's been a month, but still I yearn for Laina more and more. Last I heard, both of her parents were thrown in jail. Keith for abuse and her mom for child endangerment. Rover was in my custody, but I gave him to my niece a few days ago.

Finally, I work up the courage and drive up the overgrown path to the meadow with trees where I first met Laina. I take the urn from the passenger seat. "Laina, I'm sorry. But....somehow I know you'll be happy I'm doing this. I need to move on... and maybe this will help you too."

I spread some ashes around every tree and finish by sprinkling the rest in the small creek. I put a picture of Laina and a note I wrote in a hole in the ground Rover had dug before. I cover up the hole and get back in my truck.

As I drive, I think of the note which read, "Dear Laina, I love you, but I must move on. Maybe I'll find someone else and have a happy family someday. But before that can happen, I need to move on. To finalize this, I've decided to spread your ashes around your special meadow. I know you had many happy memories there, so I thought that maybe it would make you even happier to be a part of it...literally. For years to come, your ashes should help beautiful plants to flourish. I hope I made the right choice, because it feels right."
